Sorry you didn't enjoy your Dream cruise.

We were on the Dream back in September 25. We did notice the smell that everyone talks about every time we exit the ships in ports as it was very strong on the 2nd floor. Maybe Carnival is finding a way to make sure people pay more to go higher up..

This was the first cruise that we found the staff at the purser desk to be so friendly. When the girl at the desk found out we were from Canada she gave us a pack of Carnival playing cards.

This was also the first time I saw security guards walking around, so I felt save. "C" attached picture

Our group of 4 went in the hot tub on the 5th floor. My sail and sign card came out of my swim trucks. This was the great moment I will not forget because the other 4 ladies that were in the hot tub began looking for it. They all commented on how much fun they had finding the card. We had such a great time laughing that I think Carnival should make this a game, who can find the free drink coupon..lol

I would sail on the Dream again in a heartbeat as it was a wonderful cruise.

I also sailed on the Oct 2, l0 sailing on the Dream. The smell was definitely around. I was in 8292 and it definitely waffled down the hall at times (but not always). Also smelled the smell multiple other times and pleaces. I had read the reviews, so knew what the issue was.

Our group of 8 had an awesome time. Butch as the CD and ACD George aka "baby butch" were an awesome duo. I loved the shows, comedy and the multiple other entertainment around the ship. The only con I think is the lido. The food lines were very confusing in the beginning.

Just back from the 10/09 sailing as the OP. Everyone in our group really enjoyed themselves. We had a great wait staff and an exccellet room steward and assistant.

We did smell "the smell" on a few occassions. My mom said it smelled awful on the 7th deck laundry room. She also said the water used to wash the clothes smelled like raw sewage. There was a heavy presence of security throughout the cruise. Which I thought was good. I caught the tail end of a couple of disturbances in Caliente.

Overall we really enjoyed ourselvees.

My wife and I were on the 10/09 cruise as well. We didn't smell the smell except by the laundry/ironing areas, we saw no fights, and we had probably the best cruise we have ever had. I will agree that the service was lacking this time compared to our previous cruises. For example, our room steward told us that where he used to cover 5 rooms, it is now 14. He was good, but never came to check on us like they have in the past. Anything we needed we sought him out and he took care of it though. Our dining room server was great, learned what we liked with our meals, but again, didn't stop to make small talk because he was busier than usual. The only place that we had really bad service was the steakhouse. There was a party of about 20 and they had 5-6 servers tied up, causing the rest of that section to suffer. We did do the Chef's Table one night, however, and had exceptional service and that is one thing I would recommend to everyone to try and do on your next cruise. A cruise is what you make of it. If you pick everything apart and let it upset you, then Carnival, RCCL, or even Seabourn will not make you happy. The Dream is not to be missed.

just my two cents....I enjoy both RCCL and Carnival. Been on about the same number of each. Been thinking about booking on Royal for early next year but hesitant because of the recent reports I have gotten from 3 separate people at work who have been on RCCL in the past month....tells me they can definately see that RCCL has cheapen things and especially noticeable in the dining room....
and that the crew seem to be not so nice as in the past....

So OP....hope you don't run into they issues my friends have had on RCCL recently......
Just got off the Dream, many many issues on that Ship. They need to take that one off the fleet and re-do the staff, and Guest Service policies. My list is long of the problems we had on that ship, right down to a VIP cabin that smelled like a sepic tank all week. Come on 4000.00 for a cabin that smelled. Fights in the halls late at night and no one would answer at Guest Services, SHORT STAFFED everywhere. And it goes on and on. But I am going to stop here because I just want to forget about it and book with RCCL next time !
HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Inginegirl: I was on the Carnival Dream last year for the first two cruises in the U.S. It had problems then and I am not suprised that it still has problems. The dining room never opened on time, the pizza in the pizzeria was never ready, room service took too long to get to the stateroom, too many people on the ship, the dealers in the casinos weren't good, the ship vibrated every time we went into a port, the lights weren't turned on the promanade deck all the way around. However, other cruises on Carnival went much better.

I was on for the second week, same time as you. I had none of these problems, in fact I read reviews and wonder why our cruise was so great with no problems. Spent the week on deck 2 in a cove and never smelled anything. Going back in 5 weeks and can't wait.

I just got off the DREAM today. This was my 5th cruise. I liked the ship. I have had better service in the dining area. We found out the staff had almost double the people to serve. Anytime I have been on a cruise, the worst day is still better than not being on a cruise. I think everyone should give the ship a chance!:D

About the smell...

I think it's funny that I posted a review of the Triumph last year & mentioned that there was that bad smell from time to time. Certainly wasn't a big factor to us, still had a great cruise.

But nobody ever made a big deal of it. For some reason, if you happen to smell something on the Dream, it's a huge dealbreaker for some! lol

I think this happens on ALL the ships, but because the Dream is new, some people expect her to be PERFECT.
A cruise ship is basically a floating city. There are going to be "smells" at times, just the way it is. It should pass quickly and if it doesn't, request guest services to check it out.

If the smell was ever soooo bad as to begin to hamper my cruise experience, I'd definitely have someone looking into it!

I believe in minding your own business; it'll help you avoid a lot of problems. However, I am young and dumb, and if there's a fight going on that's bothering me, I'm going to intervene. I'm not tough or looking for a fight, but I don't appreciate people taking inconsideracy to the level of fighting. Plus, I'd hate to see someone get knocked out and receive brain damage or worse.

Anyway, you should've yelled at the people fighting to knock it off.
Last time I went on a Carnival Cruise there was a fight every night. Ok it was in my cabin with my fantastic wife but we did fight every night:)
I don't think she meant a fight to see who was on top! Glad you enjoyed your fights though! ;)
On the Splendor, a man started fighting with a crew member who asked that he stop talking loudly during the muster drill. He didn't stop and the Captain put him and his girlfriend off the ship. We were an hour late leaving while they put them off the ship.

Justice a la Italian Captain. I didn't see much tolerance for nonsense on the ship, although I don't think they tolerate it much in Italy either.

...it was a refreshing change to the "never guilty because I have the following excuses" mentality in the US.

Carnival doesn't tolerate too much on their ships. This one we had first hand knowledge of but, I did read they put a bunch of people were put off the Dream in Cozumel for fighting
Would have loved to have seen a video of that.:D

 Who are you saying Bye to?

Thanks for that tip! :) We occasionally have that "bathroom smell" in our staterooms. It's awful.
My guess is Carnival. Poster stated that he/she was going back to RCLL.
I'll bid my farewells also. I've have had a couple of 'not perfect' cruises, but never one I wasn't glad I went on! ;)

How true!
I guess I must be blind to things that don't go perfectly. Life isn't perfect. I would never make it as a ship employee with all the demands placed on them. Some people think they themselves are "special" and want to be treated as if they were the only one there. I run into that in my line of work, it makes it difficult to please everyone in a timely manner.

You know what these kind of threads really bemuse me...I am very new to CC and only joined after booking my first full cruise (only other one being on the monarch for 3 days)...

I am usually found lurking on that costa boards as I'm going on the atlantica in a few weeks...Now over there, there's certainly a mixed bag of reviews, as you would expect but on 2 occasions now people have put up threads like this and people have chipped in with questions wanting to know a bit more and explain what they meant by certain things...
Its funny because they also described themselves '5 star traveller' as oppsed to VIP cabin :D (whatever that means)...Also, mentioned being attacked would you believe... Asked whether that meant physically or verbally...
We asked OP over and again if they would come back and explain in full a bit better as much of it had been quite a ramble and not a lot of sense, but they just never came back, which I found really sad...

Whilst of course its everybodies right to come on here and post as they see fit, I am now wondering what they get out of posting and then disappearing leaving us wonder and ponder...Just dont get it really:confused::(

I totally agree with you...I think some people just come on her to stir the pot so all the "stuff" doesn't sink to the bottom..I would have liked a few more details also but I don't think the OP is coming back to respond..We loved the Dream and are planning on going back and doing a B2B to do some of the things we missed doing the first time....:)..Dennis

I can't say I always blame them. There were people even questioning if a cabin on the Dream could cost $4000 and others saying "Oh I never smell anything on the ship" even with the repeated comments and reviews stating they also smelled it.

I've seen it happen before and it will continue. People relay an honest report of their thoughts and opinions about their cruise and they get bashed for it.

This was the "review" she posted about 5 minutes before this one in her Roll Call thread:

Her OP on this thread seems much more critical.
