Why Can’t I have my favorite Spirit?

For Carnival cruises out of Tampa the baggage screeners are now tagging suitcases that they suspect contain liquor. On board security then notifies the owner that their bag contains prohibited items and to go to the security office to unlock the luggage for inspection and confiscation of the prohibited items prior to receiving their luggage. We had a bottle of Macallan 18 year old Single Malt Whisky which cost me $151, which was confiscated. I went to guest relations offered them $50 to let me have my Whisky and they said they could not let me have it even if I offered them $100 due to corporate policy and that it would be returned on the last night of the cruise. Guest relations then said that I could buy a bottle of liquor from room service but they do not have anything even close to what I really enjoy. When I cruise I would really enjoy some of my favorite liquor on my balcony. As it is now you have to settle for what is on board. It’s widely understood that liquor is a major source of Carnivals revenue, why will carnival not allow people to pay a fee to bring on board a bottle of their favorite spirit that the ship does not have on board?

I think you answered your own question, why they cant just charge a fee and let you bring on liquor you want. Casino and liquor sales are a huge part of the profit on a cruise.

.. how would they figure out the fee. You might be willing to pay $50 or $100, but most people wouldnt pay even $25, as the bottle they want to bring on cost less than $25.

It might be interesting to see what fee people would be willing to pay, though I doubt it will change anyone's mind at Carnival.

Just curious if you were aware of the beverage policy before you boarded. If so, why would you still try to bring it on board?

Smuggling used to be very easy. These days it is a flip of the coin at best, even with rum runners.
