papilliontraveler Posted October 27, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 27, 2010 I am going to be getting a $100 OBC. Can I use this for part of my auto-tips? I assume it will just be deducted off my total S&S bill(which will have the gratuities on it).
travelntreats Posted October 27, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 27, 2010 You are correct in that when the charges are posted to your S & S portfolio (including gratuities), the $100.00 OBC will be utilized to pay those charges incurred.
Deckhawk Posted October 27, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 27, 2010 I believe that the terms state that you cannot use the OBC for tips and gambling. I think this only matters if you don't spend $100 onboard the ship on excursions/drinks/spa, etc...
EmmasNana Posted October 27, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 27, 2010 I always use OBC for the tips. I don't usually spend much on board.
michelle1836 Posted October 27, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 27, 2010 we just used our OBC for our tips this past summer. You can always go to the front desk and ask for a print out of your spending/OBC Or check on your TV on some ships

Yes, the "terms" do state what you have commented, but I have yet to see them enforced regarding OBC NOT BEING APPLIED to "gratuities".

queeni Posted October 27, 2010 #9 Share Posted October 27, 2010 We just used our OBC earlier this month to pay the automatic gratuity. Our S&S bill was only .95 :D You can use it towards tips if you don't spend it elsewhere.

guxu Posted October 27, 2010 #12 Share Posted October 27, 2010 According to the rule, shareholder benefit OBC cannot be used for tip. But I guess OBC from other sources have different rule?

Yes...I know ES OBC is redeemable by check at the end of the cruise, but I have been told that other forms of OBC are not. Always wise to read the fine print..... papilliontraveler Posted October 27, 2010 Author #15 Share Posted October 27, 2010 Well, I guess I will see what they do. FWIW, the OBC will be "purchased" by redeeming cc(Carnival Mastercard) points. Even if they don't let me, I am sure we will have more than the $100 OBC I am getting, ran up on the S&S bill. Deckhawk Posted October 28, 2010 #16 Share Posted October 28, 2010 Just to clarify my comments above - I've never had a problem, but I double checked and the terms do state that they cannot be used for tips. As mentioned above, it looks like it's not being enforced...
salty dingo Posted October 28, 2010 #17 Share Posted October 28, 2010 Yes, all charges including gratuity are posted to your account, and the OBC will be a credit in that same account. It can offset any charge you like, but all charges are in the same account, so it just comes off the total in the end,
chapps Posted October 28, 2010 #18 Share Posted October 28, 2010 okay....i think i understand, but i have to ask for clarification: i've been/still purchasing funship dollars (applied as OBC) for our upcoming cruise. will our gratuities be taken out of this? or should i just go and pre-pay our tips separately? we've already passed final payment. can i just call my PVP and set this up or is too late? we're newbie cruisers trying to keep costs to a minimum. :)

We've done this the last couple cruises and have liked having it done & out of the way...keeps the S&S bill a bit lower. It doesn't matter if you're past final payment or not. As far as their terms stating you can't use them for the gratuities, that really doesn't make any sense since it is an "Onboard" credit and your gratuities are incurred "onboard". Anyway, thanks for all the replies.

near the beach Posted October 28, 2010 #23 Share Posted October 28, 2010 We were told that the future cruise OBC could not be used towards gratuities. That doesn’t make any difference to us because we will spend more than $100 while on the ship anyway. The OBC will get spent. No problem…;)

Why are you fussing over this so much if the OBC will be used up regardless if it is applied towards gratuities or not ? Arguing just for the sake of arguing ?
