gail811 Posted November 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2010 Hopefully this is one disaster that never happens again, but the incident on the Splendor started me thinking about comfort items that might have helped make things a little more bearable for those on board. I have seen battery operated phone chargers and I'm sure that would have been helpful keeping phones charged for communicating with family. (buying myself one tomorrow!)Hopefully any cruisers returning from the Splendor will have a list in their heads and may want to share! Welcome home Splendor cruisers! GlendaleCruiser Posted November 11, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2010 I think that might be a nifty gadget if it's not too expensive. I know that I usually take an interior cabin and I would have been fine with my maglight and touchlights (for getting up at night). I'll continue to take those. I also have a battery powered clock because I like to know what time it is when I wake up (and roll back over to go back to sleep).
realmccoy Posted November 11, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2010 MRE's! At least I could cook a hot meal on my balcony!
Jabee Posted November 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2010 Flashlights and batteries... We always take a couple of "pop up" lights, and DW said from now on we will take a couple of extras.

Rosefloater Posted November 12, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 12, 2010 Flashlights and batteries...We always take a couple of "pop up" lights, and DW said from now on we will take a couple of extras. I always travel with a flashlight. I now have a GE camera that takes 2AA batteries instead of my Olympus that I have to recharge the battery. I also always bring some granola bars and room deoderizer . But after hearing about the toilets not working for a day, I might just have to pack some Depends or a camp toilet!:D
marshhawk Posted November 12, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2010 And for those interior rooms, or window with no air, a battery operated fan.
Delta Dear Posted November 12, 2010 #8 Share Posted November 12, 2010 A week's worth of medication BEYOND the expected date of return. My husband had a kidney transplant several years ago and is also insulin dependent. I always have one or two days extra, but if ever stranded at the ending of a cruise instead of the beginning, he'd be in trouble.
Anjanu Posted November 12, 2010 #9 Share Posted November 12, 2010 Gives smuggling a whole new meaning. Wondering how hard it would be to smuggle on a porta-potty. Seriously. I wonder how people who were on insulin handled it. Insulin has to be kept refridgerated.
WinnipegCruiser Posted November 12, 2010 #10 Share Posted November 12, 2010 I was thinking a hand crank flashlight / cell phone charger... http://www.soscharger.com/ I really hate the idea of a dead cell phone.
luv2cruise777l Posted November 12, 2010 #11 Share Posted November 12, 2010 I plan on packing a few protein bars in my suitcase for our next cruise! Oh, and a flashlight! We are booked in an inside cabin. :)
McDebbie Posted November 12, 2010 #12 Share Posted November 12, 2010 I'm going to triple up on my supply of antibactia wipes. Wonder if there is a solar powered charging device? I would look into one of those. Will look into the battery one also. We normally take slim jims and nuts anyway, DH gets cranky if he doesn't have a snack on the plane. But 4 days of that? MAO Posted November 12, 2010 #13 Share Posted November 12, 2010 I always take a flashlight, and will add to my "snack" supply which usually consists of crackers (mostly for the flight) . Maybe granola, raisins, dryed fruit etc. Oh and an extra book for reading while I chill on my balcony!;)
Maddle Posted November 12, 2010 #14 Share Posted November 12, 2010 A week's worth of medication BEYOND the expected date of return. Now THIS is the really smart suggestion, for any trip! ...and pack it in your carry on. And carry it, for Pete's sake! Don't check it figuring you will see it on the other side/in your room/at the luggage depot/etc. (because you don't really know where your suitcase is going to end up.) We have a different version of this, I love it. It is great in the house. I carry it on vacations too

jean95404 Posted November 12, 2010 #17 Share Posted November 12, 2010 QVC has a Solair solar charging unit that can handle cellphones etc. About $50 but so useful. Love having it on hand!
luvcdays Posted November 12, 2010 #18 Share Posted November 12, 2010 We always take flashlights, battery operated fan & alarm clock, extra batteries, anti-bacterial wipes, fruit strips (lightweight & small), and Courtesy Flush, which always keep the toilet smelling good:). 05mak05 Posted November 12, 2010 #20 Share Posted November 12, 2010 This probably isn't the proper thread but I am wondering what people using wheelchairs or scooter chairs did about not having elevators.
Rosefloater Posted November 12, 2010 #21 Share Posted November 12, 2010 This probably isn't the proper thread but I am wondering what people using wheelchairs or scooter chairs did about not having elevators. I saw on TV or read it somewhere that there was 1 elevator. it was probably reserved for them
sanmarcosman Posted November 12, 2010 #22 Share Posted November 12, 2010 I've added peanut butter and dried fruit to my list.
GlendaleCruiser Posted November 12, 2010 #23 Share Posted November 12, 2010 I think it's a great idea to pack some dried fruit, little cracker packs, etc. Packs of mixed nuts would be great, too (protein). You can always eat them on the plane home.
Hayyd Posted November 12, 2010 #24 Share Posted November 12, 2010 MRE's, oh my! My husband and I were joking about this last night when we read that the US Navy was helping to supply some food items to the Splendor. He has 17 years in the military and said he'd rather starve! LOL We all know that if it came down to it, food is food and I would deal with an MRE IF I HAD to! LOL
Poomah Posted November 12, 2010 #25 Share Posted November 12, 2010 WOW - have always traveled with a flashlight, protein bars, and anti-bacterial wipes. Not to mention the bottled H2O we bring with us. Just trying to be a good girl scout.
