sailorbill Posted November 25, 2010 #26 Share Posted November 25, 2010 To answer the original question - Yes!! Some Holland America ships are designed to sail faster than Carnival ships. ms Amsterdam and ms Rotterdam are designed to sail at speeds up to 25 knots in order to make long distance round the world voyages in a reasonable length of time. Carnival ships are mostly designed to have top speeds of 19 to 21 knots which is satisfactory for the itineraries that Carnival mostly sails. As far as I know Carnival cruise line has not done any round the world voyages or seems interested in doing so. Bill
golfadj Posted November 25, 2010 #27 Share Posted November 25, 2010 I think I remember that Carnival ships can go up to about 24 knots in case of emergencies but did not know that Holland American ships were designed to go faster.
