marcaroh Posted December 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2010 For the 2 bottles of wine that X allows for each cabin, is it better to put them in a carry on bag or in a checked bag? Does it make any difference?

acumenhokie Posted December 10, 2010 #3 Share Posted December 10, 2010 I placed mine between all my clothes in my checked baggage and it was fine. Didn't want to carry around 2 heavy bottles between when I got on the ship and when my cabin was ready. As long as you secure them you'll be fine. Lsimon Posted December 10, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 10, 2010 We've done both. Usually depends on whether we're bringing it from home in our checked luggage or buying it after arrival at the port. But lately we've tended to carry on from port area purchases. Besides that way you'll have something to put on ice for sail away and also something to console you if your luggage gets lost. (I know ...I shouldn't even joke about that!) GRBlizz Posted December 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted December 10, 2010 Two bottles in the carry-on and two in the checked. (OK, I was seriously kidding about that). We are Carry-on believers as well, because it would be quite bad if the bottle did happen to break.
Rare geoherb Posted December 10, 2010 #7 Share Posted December 10, 2010 I had mine in my carry-on for our last Celebrity cruise (Century, 2008). Security held both bottles. I got them back the second evening, so no sailaway glass of wine for us.

marcaroh Posted December 10, 2010 Author #9 Share Posted December 10, 2010 Thanks everyone for your replies. The 2 bottles of wine have to start out in the checked bags anyway (because we're bringing them from home and flying). I'm going to wrap them in bubble wrap and double zip-lock bag them. I guess I'll just leave them in there.
tally10 Posted December 10, 2010 #10 Share Posted December 10, 2010 Remember, unless the airlines have changed their policies, you can't have more than 3oz. of liquid in your carryon. Returning from an eastbound TA, I saw security in Europe confiscating the wine people purchased in France and placed in their carryons. So, I am assuming you mean putting the wine after you arrive on your flight in your carryon. We put it in the checked bags wrapped in bubble wrap, then a zip lock, with a sock around it for further cushioning. Haven't lost one to breakage yet. Now coming from a foreign port to ship, they WILL confiscate them if they see them in your carryon and return them the last night of the cruise. Has anyone ever had the 2 allowed bottles of wine confiscated from checked bags?
CHEZMARYLOU Posted December 11, 2010 #12 Share Posted December 11, 2010 Has anyone ever had a problem with putting champagne in their checked luggage? Not so much worried about getting it on board but with flying with it. Mary Lou
O2cruise_again Posted December 11, 2010 #13 Share Posted December 11, 2010 Some wine shops have small molded styrofoam containers that perfectly hold two bottles of wine and don't take up much more room than bubble wrap.
