bravebabe Posted December 16, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted December 16, 2010 Yes it was $999 for a d2-d8 balcony cabin. I checked today even and it went back to $1335 for the d2! I kept looking and looking and just on a whim said what the heck and booked it cannot wait! Especially with this cold south florida weather as of late :)
tattoocruise Posted December 16, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 16, 2010 let's see, oasis don'ts.... don't expect the same level of service as you might get on the smaller royal Caribbean ships. don't forget to hold your nose while walking through the foul odor in central park. don't expect peace and quiet in the solarium because royal Caribbean turns a blind eye to children in there even though they're not supposed to be. ZoeyVictoria Posted December 16, 2010 #6 Share Posted December 16, 2010 Most important "don't"? Don't believe tattoocruise. I have found nothing he said to be true. I know you are going to have a wonderful time on the Oasis.
bravebabe Posted December 16, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted December 16, 2010 Thanks for the responses. Oasis looks amazing & a little intimidating. Our only other cruise was Enchantment so this is really a step up! :)

If you cant tell I am very excited! Congrats! Your room is very close to the elevator, should come in handy. Our very 1st cruise (Oasis) isn't until Feb. You'll find tons of tips here on the Oasis. Have a wonderful sailing!
cruzkitty Posted December 17, 2010 #10 Share Posted December 17, 2010 I am cruising Oasis in September. I cruised the Dream last Sept and read all about the "Smell" before we boarded. Yes, I did smell it on occasion. Did it ruin my cruise? No way!! Takes more than a little odor and a rare steak to ruin my cruise. Like no air conditioning-now that we would have to talk about-lol. Enjoy your cruise!!!

Yeah but did you order a drink that no one had ever heard of and that the ship did not even have the ingredients to make? Because ummm yeah then you would have seen how terrible things are on Oasis! Totally tongue in cheek there folks for those who recall the weeping and wailing last week about that "issue".:D To the OP, have a great time. Take care, Jim
Aquahound Posted December 20, 2010 #14 Share Posted December 20, 2010 Great 24 hour sale on Oasis Jan 22nd cruise could not pass up! Anyone ever stayed in balcony 9574? Any Oasis does or don'ts? If you cant tell I am very excited! Congratulations. You are going to LOVE the Oasis. I was so blown away by this ship, I immediately booked the Allure. Don'ts: - Don't go to the Windjammer for lunch on embarkation day. That's where everyone goes and it can be chaotic. Go to either Park Cafe in Central Park, or the Solarium Bistro in the Solarium. Both are free. - Don't miss any of the shows. Make sure you book reservations as soon as they are available for all the shows. They are excellent, and the best I have seen on a cruise. Do's: - Do book at least one specialty restaurant. My recommendation is Giovanni's Table. Even if it's just for lunch ($10), the food is out of this world, especially the tiramisu. - Do the zip line. It is short lived, but fun. There is an automatic camera that takes your picture. You punch in your room number when you get off and the picture goes to your photo album. CrusinCyndi Posted December 20, 2010 #15 Share Posted December 20, 2010 My parents are going on the Oasis of the Seas in mid -January. They are in Cabin 11184. Does anybody have any pictures or video of that cabin or one like it? I tried to go on youtube but could not find anything. I also tried googling the cabin # and did not come up with anything. Thanks for any help.
MusicalCruiser Posted December 20, 2010 #16 Share Posted December 20, 2010 Hi Cyndi, If you log into their RCI account and click on their reservation, there will be a spot to "see" a photo and a 360 degree view of "their" cabin (or you could do the same thing making a "ghost" booking). We just got off her yesterday and were in 11192. Your parents will be 4 cabins closer to the forward elevators, port side. DH didn't take any cabin pics, but it was very nice with more than adequate storage. Ours was the first cabin in the forward "hump", so our balcony was a bit deeper. That was nice on the windy days when we could scoot our chairs back into the corners for a bit of protection. Best RCI cruise we've been on, ever (even though the winds were pretty high a couple of days, Oasis took it well). Wonderful food and entertainment (do have them make the reservations as this will allow them to just walk in and find a seat before those without ressies can enter). We've noticed in the past 10 years that the RCI budget has been trimmed with the resulting reduction in the quality of some of the entertainment (and I'm sure many people would say food), but every show and most of the singles and groups were excellent. We didn't eat at any of the specialty restaurants, but our dining room food was very good (not gourmet, but if I wanted that I would sail with one of the upper crust lines). We got to the ship around 11 and went straight to the Park Cafe after a very efficient embarcation for one of their famed beef sandwiches. Wow, it was really good! Had to go back for lunch another day to make sure it wasn't a fluke. ;) Everyone of the crew that I came in contact with was friendly and helpful. Smiles and solicitations from everyone. That in itself makes for a pleasant cruise. There weren't a lot of children on the ship, but the ones I saw were well behaved. There is a lot of walking if you want to see everything, but the ship is very well laid out, so I didn't spend a lot of time retracing my steps. Do as another poster says and take the map with you and use the interactive maps around the ship to help you get your bearings. It seems overwhelming at first, but it's a pretty logical layout and after the first two days, I didn't need the map. One of the really cool features on the interactive TV in the cabin is a "restaurant availability" chart that is updated every few minutes. We would check it before we decided where we'd have breakfast and lunch and that saved us a lot of time waiting at over-crowded restaurants. On that note, RCI must monitor these boards because every time we ate in the Windjammer, we witnessed extra staff meeting those with plates looking for a seat and hustling the bussers to clear tables and find extra chairs, if they were needed, so no one waited very long to be seated. On past cruises we sometimes wandered for five minutes looking for a place to sit. It's also nice that there are so many places to choose from for your meals. Bon Voyage everyone! You'll love the Oasis! Wish I was going along :
queeniebmw Posted December 20, 2010 #17 Share Posted December 20, 2010 We just booked the Feb. 5 cruise to the Western and are really excited, too!! I've been doing a lot of researching and pretty much everyone has said you need to reserve your shows in order to get seats. We're looking forward to seeing just how big this ship is. We've been on Explorer and Voyager before. Have fun!
granger Posted December 20, 2010 #18 Share Posted December 20, 2010 I've just returned from last weeks sailing and I thought the crew were very friendly, food and choices in mdr were excellent. Ship did not feel crowded and it just takes a couple of days to find your way around. The only negative for me was the size of the casino, much too small for the amount of passengers, it was always crowded in the evenings.
bravebabe Posted December 20, 2010 Author #19 Share Posted December 20, 2010 Thanks for the information everyone. We already went ahead and prebooked our entertainment and a dinner at Giovannis & Chops. I really cannot see how anything can spoil this cruise on this ship! Sooo looking forward to it. travelbig Posted December 20, 2010 #20 Share Posted December 20, 2010 We also just returned on Saturday from the Oasis. Absolutely beautiful ship and wonderful crew. On embarkation day we went to the Park Cafe on advice from a poster and found it to be busy beyond belief. We went directly to the Windjammer and found many empty tables. Even on sea days there were empty tables. Yes, the buffet is busy, but we are used to that. There are other locations, too, listed in the paper to eat lunch at. Loved the "no smoking" signs on each stateroom. No problem with smoke drifting over while on the balcony. Didn't understand one thing though. It was posted in the daily paper every day that shorts are not allowed in the MDR for dinner, yet none were turned away for this infraction. On formal nights there were people dressed less than smart casual who were seated. Rather irritating for those of us who try to follow the rules. DH and I are just off Oasis and found the service to be just fine. We dined in the MDR only twice but had two excellent servers and bar waiter in our section. Dinner at 150 Central Park was the best dining experience ever...quite upscale. We strolled through Central Park at different times of the day and night...every day and never experienced a foul odor. Thank goodness because that was our favorite place on the ship. We didn't spend an awful lot of time in the solarium but did visit the hot tubs five of the seven days and enjoyed lounging in this beautifully appointed area on a couple of occasions. We didn't see any children in the solarium and I'm disappointed to hear that you did see kids there.
coffeebean Posted December 21, 2010 #22 Share Posted December 21, 2010 USE the map that they will give you at check-in! And USE the interactive maps in the elevator lobbies. The interactive maps around the ship were so easy to use and so helpful. You can not get lost on this ship...signage is excellent. HINT...on the sixth day of the cruise, I realized the front of the automobile on the Royal Promenade is facing the forward part of the ship. Duh!!!
