biker@sea Posted December 26, 2010 #27 Share Posted December 26, 2010 I think the comments about weather people are out of place. Would like to see y'all do better. Anyway, the ships are equipped with snow treads and chains and make it through the snow just fine. I woke up to 1.5 inch of snow this morning with snow blowing sideway's at time's and adding up fast. The weather man just came on and said ( light snow beginning by noon ) I don't know how good your weather guy is but up here in New England they could at least look out the window. RocklandCruiser Posted December 26, 2010 #28 Share Posted December 26, 2010 http://wirednewyork.com/images/webcams/wired-new-york-webcam3.jpg As you can see - the Jewel is in and no blizzard yet. We left on the Gem the day after the blizzard of February 2010 - no problems. I hope it goes as well for today's passengers.

Rare Turtles06 Posted December 26, 2010 #36 Share Posted December 26, 2010 Well, it's nearly 4:30pm, and the Jewel's web cam shows her still docked, with some snow visible on the bit of the bow that's in the pic... Hope the ship pulls away soon, and everyone on board has a great cruise, notwithstanding the weather!
Kaboochi Posted December 26, 2010 #37 Share Posted December 26, 2010 Miami ports for departure in early Feb can be cold - last year I think it was in the 30s. I can't imagine cruising out of a port in NY, NJ or even Baltimore this time of year. I hope everyone on board a safe trip with calm seas. Maybe the ship will wait until tomorrow to leave. DKAL Posted December 26, 2010 #39 Share Posted December 26, 2010 Outbound http://marinetraffic.com/ais/default.aspx?level0=100 That is a great website. I was able to see the ship in Florida that my friends are on. Thanks for posting it. Hope everyone arrived safely on the Jewel and that they have a great time. By the looks of the radar, they should be sailing out of the blizzard in no time.

Perhaps, but if you look here, http://www.oceanweather.com/data/NE-US/index.html They may be in for some nice waves.

If you can't imagine crusing out of New York in a blizzard, try flying into or out of New York in a blizzard. As expected, the Jewel left a little late, but even with rough seas the first night, you will sleep better in your cabin than in an airport with no alternate flights for days. All New York area airports were closed Sunday and thousands of flights canceled but the Jewel sailed. Bon Voyage Jewel, the palm trees beckon. When almost all transportation was shut down, the Jewel serenely sailed away. The lucky folks that made it to the ship I'm sure are very happy to be escaping the blizzard and its aftermath. And I took a peak at the webcam, and it doesn't look that bad, with nothing but improvement to come. The end of the week looks to be much improved here also, so when these folks get back, it will be much nicer than when they left.

Problem is they get a runway cleared and the winds cause the snow to drift right back. There aren't enough cots for everyone, and like Dolphins says, some of them have been there a long time and can expect to camp out again tonight.
