What are your top five favorite things to do in Nassau?

We will be visiting Nassau during the first part of February on RCI's Majesty of the Seas. We will be arriving at 1 p.m., so we don't want to get a day pass somewhere. We plan to take a taxi over to Atlantis to look around a bit, but then what?

Thanks for any help! Just a few notes: I will be with my mom who isn't a great walker and because we are worried about the cooler temps, we really don't want to do a beach day.

Straw Market.....a must do especially if 1st visit...quite an unique experience.

Atlantis is fun....Casino is good size if that interest you....plus there is a free beach on paradise is (cabbage beach) water can be rough though so be careful.

water taxi.....we prefer to take this to atlantis as it is a more unique way to get around and cheaper than a regular taxi/van ($3 each way)......get on near straw mkt along the waterfront.

enjoy and have fun!

Since you are not arriving until 1pm, I would head over to Atantis AFTER doing something else.. since most things end or close around 4:30 / 5pm

I second the water taxi, It's a great way to get a little taste of the bahamian culture

Here's my list -

Carriage Ride

Taxi Tour including Lunch at Travelers Rest

Ardastra Gardens

Town and Country or Historic Tour with Majestic

Lunch at the Fish Fry and down town shopping

For those that may want an inexpensive walking tour right off the ship:

Walk up telegraph hill to the Queens staircase, learn some history, climb the stairs, visit the little fort and have a beautiful sweeping view of the harbor.

Guide host "narration": Optional, or whatever tip you feel like giving him.

(We enjoyed his history speech, and gave him a 5 buck tip.)

Entrance to fort: A dollar a person.

Visit and climb Queens staircase: Free

Not for someone that has trouble walking, but an interesting tour for those that may enjoy it.

When in February?? We'll be on board the 4th to the 7th. If you're mom isn't a good walker and you want to go to Atlantis then take a taxi. It is a 10 to 15 minute walk, up hill from the water taxi pier. Not fun, especially if it's hot. My favorite thing to do in Nassau is find a chair on the pool deck of the ship and make sure a waiter comes by on a regular basis. :D

One of our top things to do has been mentioned- Ardastra Gardens. They have benches to sit on to watch the Marching Flamingo Show. We had a relaxing time there.

Also, a bus tour of the historic sites is good- many cruise lines offer this.

Nassau has some beautiful buildings.
