Car Parking at port vs hotel stay

The port of miami parking seems very high 140.00 for 7 days. Is there a cheaper way to do this? Stay at hotel and leave car for the week? which hotel? free shuttle from hotel but do any have free shuttle back to hotel? How much is cab fare back to a hotel near airport I guess? Is this all a hassle should we pay the money?

Miami is not a town where you want to leave your car in an unattended, unsecured lot. Many people will do this with no problems but, there are horror stories on this board of people not parking at the port and having their car damaged, stolen, rifled through, moved, etc.

Park at the port.

question is simple to answer, pick one:

what's the cost of that one night stay in the hotel? Often over $100. So you saved $40.

The port has 24 hour security ... POM is also a cargo port, security is patrolling 24/7. Car damaged at the hotel?

Ain't no shuttle 'free'; you pay for it somewhere . . . and most Miami hotels tell you 'take a cab.'

Yes, $140 for parking is hard to swallow. Going another way, all you did was mix it with a spoonful of sugar . . . The hotel, plus a cab, and/or a tip for the shuttle/cab driver ....

we're talking plus or minus $20 here.

Now if parked at the port, when you leave the ship you can be in your car and on your way in a matter of minutes. Or waiting for a shuttle, or a cab to take you back to that hotel . . .

Downtown Miami hotels close to POM charge $25-30+ per day for parking  so most hotels offering cruise parking packages are out near MIA. Hampton Inn Blue Lagoon and the Embassy Suites, both near MIA, have been suggested for cruise parking deals. ES usually offers a free shuttle to POM for one pasenger - others cost $10 per person.:( If a shuttle is not offered a taxi to POM will run just under $30 including tip - same price to get back to your car after the cruise.

I suggest you listen to the advice above and stay somewhere outside of the Miami area the night before your cruise - cheaper and safer  - and then utilize the safe and secure port parking. Good luck! :)
