CarolRoy Posted January 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2011 We will be on the HAL Nieuw Amsterdam (Med. Tapestry sailing Oct. 3). We will be in Venice for an over-night. Venice will be the last port of this cruise. Ship docks in Vencie at 1:00PM, then overnight, then disembarkation should begin at 8:00AM the next morning. Would be have enough time to get from the ship to the airport. Our flight is at 11:35AM. We are planning to carry off our luggage. Are taxis waiting this early (8:00AM) and would we clear customs quick? Any idea how many euros the taxi would be? Thanks for any help. mapleleaves Posted January 10, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2011 if you look a little further down the page you'll see a similar question was just asked and answered .... the thread is about an 11:50am flight. You don't say where you're flying to, USA ? or within Europe? You should be fine, just be sure to be at the airport by 9am. We had a noon flight; caught the 9:10am bus near the pier and got to the airport at 9:30. The departures area (2nd floor) was jam packed. We made it but it was too close. You have already cleared customs the day before. Not much point in leaving before 900 for a 1 PM flight

Earl Rosebery Posted January 10, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2011 Is the bus always there? How many euros for the bus? Or would a taxi be a better alternative. Mea culpa. For an 11:00 flight, leave the ship by 8:00 , 7:00 if you are really worried about it. A taxi is certainly the easiest way to go. About 35 euros.from the dock. The bus leaves from Piazzal Roma. Take the people mover tram to P. Roma then the express bus. see http://www.veniceforvisitors.com Greater detail here http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/early-flights-from-venice-airport.htm Taxi is the better option. mapleleaves Posted January 10, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 10, 2011 I used the airport express bus (ATVO) for 3E. It leaves at 20 and 50 minutes after the hr from Piazzale Roma at signpost D2. They advertise 20 minutes but it wasn't even 15. Greyhound style bus and luggage stored underneath. Your ship may provide a free shuttle to PR but if it doesn't you can take the People Mover for 1E. http://www.atvo.it/images_doc/partenze/Marco_Polo_(dal_7.11.10_al_5.03.2011).pdf The easiest would be a taxi; they leave from the pier for about $30. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/venice-cruise-port-transportation-ground.htm

On a related note, can you get off the ship as early as you want? We are looking at booking a 10:40am flight from Venice to Paris at the end of the cruise and are not sure if we can make it in time. We are 2 adults and 2 kids (6 & 8) with one big bag apiece. What time does the ship start moving luggage off? We're on HAL. Thanks for any thoughts!
