Somehow our TA got us a bit of an upgrade

We weren't booked ES so we should be able to be getting upgrades but I got an email from our TA yesterday saying she got us from a 4A now to a 4G Veranda deck. She said she is going to keep checking and see if she can get us into an OV before we go. I know its only floors up and not a "real" upgrade but still makes me happy to be closer if it isn't costing me any more lol.

I actively check prices. You coulda got a huge obc instead.

but on our cruise they were giving out free upgrade---book an 8C and get a 8J which was also selling at 180.00 cheaper then what we booked.

Your TA merely saw a higher category stateroom selling for the same price as your original stateroom category and upgraded you. I just hope the location meets your needs. But I would be watching those rates too in case you catch something your TA misses possibly. Of course no OBC for you, but an upgrade can be a nice surprise too sometimes. Personally if it were me, I would ask the TA to contact you before making a change w/out your approval.
