lynelz1 Posted January 18, 2011 #51 Share Posted January 18, 2011 I like to collect coffee mugs also, from the ports, where I can. I like the memory that comes to me as I drink my coffee. I am on a quest to get glass mugs instead of ceramic ones. The glass ones just seem more "special".

FireMonkey Posted January 18, 2011 #54 Share Posted January 18, 2011 I collect shot glasses from everywhere I go. I have about 50 right now. I also started scrapbooking my cruises and use the port pictures you get taken on the gangway to put in them. I have a few fire dept tshirts from ports I've visited as well. Warm Breezes Posted January 18, 2011 #55 Share Posted January 18, 2011 I collect items that will go the shelves of my ocean themed bathroom and picture frames at each port. On the ship I always get a family picture with the double frame that comes with a ship picture. DS collects the model ships. He has all 7 on display with his S&S cards and any pins he received. DH collects shot glasses from ports and ships. DD always seems to come home with jewelry.
Disconnections Posted January 18, 2011 Author #56 Share Posted January 18, 2011 What was that RCCL junk doing in there? :D I didn't see a Bobble Heald in the bunch... It was next to my Carnival stuff so I just added it in. Where did you find that John Heald Bobblehead?
clearwatergirl Posted January 18, 2011 #57 Share Posted January 18, 2011 I have started collecting ships on a stick. So far, a total of four. Long way to go. Have one pin. Should get a pin for each ship once platinum. I also collect magnets from each port and all vacation spots I visit. My fridge is loaded. We keep our first dod in the Carnival glass. Great to use when entertaining at home. Have several of these!! :D We try and buy one photo from each cruise as a momento. Can't wait for our next journey. Love Coz;)
goldwinger88 Posted January 18, 2011 #58 Share Posted January 18, 2011 I collect the Coconut Monkeyheads. I also collect a chip from each casino I play at. I prefer to collect the Black chips ($100), but seem to keep cashing them in, so I have to settle for the Red Chip ($5) with the ships name I am playing on. The Fantasy needs to come off with some with its name on it

CanWeGoYet? Posted January 18, 2011 #60 Share Posted January 18, 2011 I don't always buy a souvenir in every port, it depends if I find something I like. But I tend toward useful things that are cute, that I can use in everyday life. I bought a thimble in le havre, a beautiful green leather bookmark with Dover castle on it, a pretty coffee mug in grand turk - & I saw the same type of souvenir mug in Astoria Oregon so I got that one too. Maybe I'll have a whole set of them one day! I love it when an everyday not so fun task like mending is a little more fun because I can be reminded of a fun time on a cruise. But I need to go back to Dover Castle for the bookmark - someone swiped it out of the book when I left it at my Doctor's office. They saved the book for me but the bookmark was long gone - wish it were the other way around. mrs141 Posted January 18, 2011 #63 Share Posted January 18, 2011 I have been collecting an old license plate from each island or forgein port I visit. So far I have 5 and should have 3 more after my October B2B on the Destiny. I have them all framed and hanging near my bar area in the basement. Sometimes they are easy to find and other times I have had find someone who would go get one for me... I have no idea where he got it and didn't ask! LOL Now that is pretty cool. I used to collect antique license plates from the states. It would be neat to have some license plates from the islands. :)
azurewater Posted January 18, 2011 #64 Share Posted January 18, 2011 I LOVE THE IDEA OF WINE BOTTLE STOPPERS! Thanks. I collect sand and shells (I take ziplock bags and sharpee and note date, beach and location. Also, try to get at least one small piece of art or jewelry on each vacation, not from each port.....unfortunately. I try to get at least one photograph from each vacation that is "frame worthy". This would be by either a local photographer or if I get lucky one that I have taken. Last but not least...passport stamps.
mrs141 Posted January 18, 2011 #65 Share Posted January 18, 2011 It was next to my Carnival stuff so I just added it in. Where did you find that John Heald Bobblehead? I think these came from the Blogger cruise a while back. John is doing another blogger cruise on the Glory Feb 27th. Now sometimes you can find the John Heald bobblehead on ebay. I was lucky and found one for my ex fiance last year on there. But its hit or miss

Also try to "collect" a frame-worthy photo... but only my own photography! Of course, love the passport stamps. I know this has been discussed in threads before, but where do you get them stamped? :confused:I've heard if you leave your passport at the Purser's Desk they will do it for you, but IDK how I feel abt leaving my passport anywhere other than in my safe. Also heard that there are desks around the ports where you can get a stamp...
sandij Posted January 19, 2011 #67 Share Posted January 19, 2011 I always buy a magnet from each port. My cubicle at work has a metal shelf running around two sides and I hang them there so I can see them every day. If I knock one down and it breaks that just means I have to go back, you wouldn't believe how hard I am on some of them.
PGCRUISERS Posted January 19, 2011 #68 Share Posted January 19, 2011 A tiny bit of sand from each port....just a smiggen. Lots of fun, memories and pictures.
Aoumd Posted January 19, 2011 #69 Share Posted January 19, 2011 I also collect the model ships, and like you my first two were the Carnival Fascination and Navigator of the Seas. I have "The Fleet" sitting on a shelf in my living room, next to models of other modes of transportation I've been on...
SMSACE6 Posted January 19, 2011 #70 Share Posted January 19, 2011 I bring back at least 3 of those plastic DOD glasses from each cruise. While I am not into the ship's photos, I usually buy the one that they take of you boarding the ship. So I have a nice collection of those as well.:) As for those DOD glasses. Sometimes when the wind is howling and the snow is gathering at my doorstep, I get one out, load it up with orange juice, a touch of cranberry, a shot of whatever and I slice an orange, and spear the orange slice with a marashino cherry and prop it on the edge of the glass. Then I enjoy it with my memories of my cruises gone by.:)

SadieN Posted January 19, 2011 #73 Share Posted January 19, 2011 Key Chains If we are going to a place that has an iconic building. I'll try to get one one. Space Needle, NYC skyline, etc. And they have to be CHEAP.
azurewater Posted January 19, 2011 #74 Share Posted January 19, 2011 I know that passports are a heated topic on here, but I take mine with me. I usually ask around the dock area and have had about 95% success in getting it stamped. Sometimes the office is too far and due to tours etc, we can't make it there. I started doing this when one of my kid's teachers would bring items from her trips (which were often) and she always showed them the passport stamp.
