justfoxie Posted January 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2011 Hi all, my mom and I are booked on the Spirit in June for a Med Cruise - very excited! My mother (55) is an avid dancer, both ballroom and country western. Does the spirit have much dancing happening in the evening? I've heard of there being gentlemen hosts on board, which sounds promising! Aside from the hosts, are there many single men aboard who are looking for dance partners? Any info or shared experience on this point will be great. My dancing skills are super rusty, so I'll probably just watch and have an extra glass of bubbly. There are dance lessons every day and there's a DJ in the Panorama Lounge every night. The gentlemen hosts aren't on every cruise so you'll need to check on that. There are very few single men onboard. Have a great trip. Cheers Jennifer
quest145 Posted January 30, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2011 We havenot been on whisper but on both Cloud and Wind there is before dinner dancing in the panorama lounge before Dinner ( to 7.30) normally to the group on board. The quality of the playing is variable as we have found on other cruise lines. We dance ballroom and Latin for fun But find that while the tempo is constant during a tune it is not Strict and quite often Latin is played at to fast a tempo as is Waltz and Foxtrot and Quickstep is played to slowly. There is a preponderance of Rythm Foxtrot. We now take our own CD's and play them after the band has finished at 7.30. You do have to check whether there are Hosts, They are very good at escorting single ladies who want to dance.
oregon50 Posted January 30, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2011 Your chances of finding country western being played are about the same as finding a straight single male onboard. The Polish bands that could play music have been, for the most part, dismissed.
Host Dan Posted January 30, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2011 Your chances of finding country western being played are about the same as finding a straight single male onboard. I think the OP is asking about single men to DANCE with! Host Dan
justfoxie Posted January 30, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted January 30, 2011 I think the OP is asking about single men to DANCE with! Host Dan Indeed, just looking for dance partners for my mom; anything else would be awkward to say the least. I think Mom will be just fine with ballroom standards, and can wait on the country western until she gets back home. ;) According to the website there will be hosts on this voyage, so will keep fingers crossed. Thanks especially for the tip on there being dancing mostly *before* dinner, as I would have expected it after. Thanks everyone!
dougburns Posted January 31, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 31, 2011 My wife and I are avid dancers and have three cruises aboard Silver Spirit. I'm sorry to say that Spirit lacks in the dance department compared to the other SS ships. There is dancing in both the Panorama Lounge and the Bar before and after dinner. Unfortunately, they don't have the quartet that they have on the other ships. It's either a piano player/singer or disco(tribal) in both places. The hosts are nice guys( if they're aboard for the particular cruise ) and they usually stay in the Panorama Lounge forward just inside the door on the starboard side.
