Casino charges to stateroom

This question has probably been asked many times but after doing a thorough search I can't find the answer.

We will soon be on the Ruby Princess. Our game of choice are the slots. In short, can you charge slot play back to your stateroom account without a 3% fee? We will use a credit card tied to our onboard charges. IF this is the case, will it show on a daily basis for our review and who charged what and the amount. I'm using my credit card for both my wife and I but she will have some OBC's for her birthday for HER to spend whatever way she wants to.

Thanks,

XRAY

Yes, you can use your shipboard card without any 3% fees for slot play. But it's slightly different from what you seem to think. Princess ships' slots are completely paperless - no little tickets to lose or crumple up. And you can load the machine with bills, but that isn't necessary..

The way it works is this: The first time you sit at a machine, insert your card. The machine will walk you through the simple process of setting up a "slot bank" and selecting your PIN number for it. You then load your slot bank form your shipboard account (all instructions are displayed on a little screen on the machine). This sum is not yet at risk!

To play, you load the machine from your slot bank - whatever amount you want to risk that session. Do your thing, and when you are finished, you upload whatever sum remains in the machine back to your slot bank. Don't leave the machine without doing that and removing your card!!! You can cash out your slot bank at the casino cage at any time. Frankly I'm not sure if you can simply move from the slot bank back to your shipboard account - I'm nit a regular slot player.

So basically, you check your progress by looking at your slot bank, not your shipboard account. Advantage - you can do this any time the casino is open. No waiting on lines!!

The casino staff will be happy to assist you and answer any questions.

Good luck and have a great cruise.

Shalom from Tel Aviv. Andy.

Andy, if all I want is cash to pay for private shore excursions and souvenirs and I have no intention of gambling, will the casino staff be upset or give me a hard time about giving me cash? I would need around $600-800 ish. Is that too much cash to ask for at one go?

You can do that. I have heard that sometimes they will limit you to $100 per withdrawal, but that might depend on the ship. There is no fuss or hassle otherwise. If you think in advance that yoyu might need more than $100 at a pop, you could divide the amount between you and your cabin mate. Each cruise card has a separate bank, NOT each cabin!.

Yikes, we might have to make a few trips then, we have private excursions booked for Puntarenas and Ocho Rios so would need cash, plus a small amount of cash for shopping. We will have 3 days in Mexico before the cruise which boards in Acapulco so I don't want to be traipsing about carrying large amounts of cash.

Take travelers checks. That is the safest way to go. You can cash them for free at the purser's desk so I was told. In the casino, I would use cash instead of keeping track of what you did or did not spend :).

Priness has a new policy where they no longer will dispense cash like this unless you have actually played the slots. Apparently this method became well known as a way to bypass the 3% fee! Sorry.
