atlgirl Posted February 21, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2011 We are an older couple on the celebrity equinox in dominica on april 7. Can anyone give us further info on the Botanical Gardens? are they worth spending time at? how far are they from the ship and is it a safe walk? my husband is a photographer so really just want to get some good pictures. Thanks.
Rare hcat Posted February 22, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 22, 2011 our tour went through the gardens via bus but did not stop It is it very park like & I believe would have some nice things to photograph-- However, I think going more into the interior of the rain forest would be better than the Gardens..we did see so many beautiful flowers, ferns & plants on our trip but not at the Gardens..many better options on a tour... our tour bus went in circles so not sure if it was walkable--it is a hilly port.. u2cruiser Posted February 22, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 22, 2011 We enjoyed the Botanical Gardens in October. It is a lovely large green space with massive trees. You will see the coach that was flattened by one of these trees during Hurricane David in 1979. It's a fairly easy walk through an interesting part of town. We turned right at the port, avoiding all the tour touts, and walked up to the church, then left, behind the town for quite a way, but not too far to the gardens. Lots of photo opportunities along the way. :)

phoenix_dream Posted February 22, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2011 Dominica is one of the most beautiful ports I have ever been to (although it is far from my favorite because once you have seen the beauty there are not all that many other things to do). I digress...............I suggest you grab a taxi tour when you get off the ship. Tell the driver what you are interested in and have him/her take you to their favorite scenic stops. This island is filled with tropical beauty.
jackdiamond Posted February 23, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 23, 2011 About a year or so ago, we visited this park. And, after our sojourn we commented that it was not much different from where we live, which is SWFL.
