sidari Posted February 23, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2011 Just read an intersting article by Captain Greybeard of the Daily Mirror regarding southampton councils plan to charge cruise passengers a £10 Levy in order to fund New roads in the area of the port! But because the current cruise lines told them they would consider moving away the council has backed down on the idea and instead are to ask the government for funding for the plan! Now then go back a little while to the complaints by the owners of Southampton docks and their complaints regarding Liverpool and Turnaround facilities!while the Council and Port owners are Two seperate bodies it is a bit rich for the council to ask for government money while the port owners complain that Liverpool should not have Facilities because they used government money to build the New landing stage!! Somewhat Hypocritical methinks.
Burgmeister Posted February 23, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2011 Given the state of Government coffers I can't see them paying anything towards Southampton's infrastructure.
ISLANDCRUSO Posted February 27, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 27, 2011 It appears that after a meeting this week between the council and the Cruise lines the Council have still not got the message! .... charge passengers for New roads and the Cruise lines will go elsewhere! seems they are intent of killing the Goose that Lays the Golden Egg.
