Pulpit Rock -- Stavanger, Norway

We'll be in Stavanger for 10 hours in June and I would really love to go to the top of Pulpit Rock. What's the best way to get there? How strenuous is the climb/walk? How much time does a decent visit (without rushing) take? I'd appreciate any information.

We did the walk last year when we were in Stavanger and I found it to be very strenuous (and I'm 30 years old and very average size and condition). At first the walk is easy but then there come parts where you have to climb alot from stone to stone to get up. Very hard for a not so tall person like me. Fortuneately my husband helped me when my legs were to short;)

Most of the time the path looks like this:

I have never expected it to be like this I must admit.

If I go up there again only with loads of time. You easily need 2,5h up and the same down if you dont hurry.

The panorama view was great (see pictures) but I was really tired after this walk!!!

From Stavanger you have to take the ferry to Tau and then a bus. You can find some informatioen here: http://www.stavangertravel.com/trip/preikestolen.cfm

That picture of you straddling the rock gives me the shakes . I am not very fond of heights.

To the OP, is your ship touring the Lysefjord after leaving Stavanger? I ask because I have been told you get an excellent view of Pulpit Rock during that time. We will be there in June and are doing other activities because our ship sails at 3:00 to tour the fjord.
