Tipping

Also, not included are Kids Club staff and if you have a suite the Butler and Concierge. I could not tell you how much people tip the Kids Club, if you use them, but for the Butler and Concierge I would recommend starting at $10.00 for each per day and adjusting from there, depending on how much you use him/her.

It's $12 per person in your cabin per day. So for instance a 7 night cruise for 2 adults and a child... the tips would be a grand total of $252. Hope that helps.

To clarify, this amount is automatically added to your onboard account. This money is then shared between most of the crew who will provide service to you throughout the cruise (waiters, room stewards, etc). You will not not to put cash into envelopes and distribute it or anything. NCL makes it much easier!

Thanks everyone for your input! My niece is cruising with us and is on a budget. I need to give her an idea about the extra costs and that includes the tipping. Thus far, this is what I have:

*porter at port

*room service $1-$2

*DSC (which includes all other tips while on board) $12 a day

*of course the excursions and tips for the exursions

*she's 18 and can't use the casino or drink

*not planning on going to any restaurants that you pay for

If anyone can think of anything else, I would appreciate it!!

If your neice likes soft drinks be prepared to pay for it unless she opts for the soda package. Similarly, juice is available but at a cost outside of breakfast hours.

Gift shop purchases and goodies will be added to the bill with your/her key card as well, so just pocket money for extras she might not think about ahead of time.

You can go really frugally, I did, until I splurged in an on board shop and the spa...but I was on vacation and I can gift things to myself whenever I feel like it! :D

for children juice is available at the Kids portion of the buffet and they will bring it to them free at the dinning rooms...really...

Once again, thanks for all of the feedback. I will let my niece know about all the things that you mentioned. If she wants sodas, she has to pay for them. If she can drink or go to the casino, she will pay for them.

Does anyone know whether NCL can give her a read out of how much she spent on her room card so that she will know how much she owes me? I know that it will all appear on my final bill, but it would be nice to have her get her own bill.

I do think she can gamble at her own expense of course...:p

If she has a credit card she can have the whole thing go to her card. If she doesn't you will have to put her on your card and she will have to reimburse you. If you want her charges separate than yours you would have to use separate credit cards. The other thing she could do is pay upfront in cash to go on her room card. I don't know what the minimum is but I do know that there is one and it definately has to at least have the amount of the DSC. Maybe someone else knows what the minimum is.:)

She won't get her own bill but you'll be able to easily separate the charges. If the credit card is in your name and you've signed the onboard billing registration that she has your permission to charge to that onboard account, then for your charges there will be no name attached to them on the printout but for her charges her name will be attached to the charges.
