I was thrown out of the Equinox casino

Yes, it's true. I was thrown out of the casino on Equinox. My crime? Walking my baby in his stroller a few too many times around the slot machines.

It became a routine to walk my 18-month old son around the ship in his stroller at 7PM, hoping that he would fall asleep in time for the baby sitters who came to the cabin at 8PM. I found that the slot machines were practically hypnotic for him, so I circled the machines several times, hoping that he would doze off.

Keep in mind that there were about 4 people in the casino playing, and my son was completely quiet.

Out of nowhere, a well-dressed man with a walkie-talkie appeared, and said, "Sir, you have to leave now."

I said, "okay," and that was that.

Maybe I should have said, "Hmmph! I've been thrown out of better places!"

No hard feelings, though. I just walked him back and forth in front of the shops, which are just outside the casino, and before you know it he was out like a light!

:):):)

That sounds pretty stupid, but not really unusual for a casino.

When I was young (as in 8 or 9 years old), I lived about an hour outside of Reno, NV, and I remember going shopping at K-Mart. Now, K-Mart's in NV at that time (probably still today) had a line of slots as you walk out of the store. I remember the "pit boss" (if you call him that) would come over and tell us (in his meanest voice possible) to get away from them, if my brothers and I stood closer than about 3 or 4 feet from the slots, when waiting for our parents to pay at the registers.

We weren't old enough in any way to gamble, or even know how to use the slot machine, but that didn't stop those guys from yelling at us.

Seems kind of ridiculous, I agree.

Not sure how the noise of slot machines can lull a baby to sleep.

If the rules are "no one under the age........ at least you know the crew were doing their job to keep it that way. ;)

Casino is no place for a baby. There I said it!

There are other places on a ship that you could have easily walk about.

I think it probably had to do with the no one under 18 rule for the casino. The signs are posted at the entrances. I can see your point, however, then it becomes one of those slippery slopes. 18 month old, then 5 yr old, 12 yr old, etc. It is what it is.

It's not like the kid was trying to play the slots! Sounds to me like someone over reacted. (Or maybe the baby was shooting craps???)

OK...I get the 'no one under 18' part....but seriously? A baby in a stroller.... can you say power trip?

Don't they have smokers or drink package cheaters to bust somewhere??

On the Solstice the casino is wide open to the shops, no coincidence. Slot machines are on the edge of the walkway. Everyone is enticed to enter including young people who like my son last week could not resist stopping and looking at the sights meant so to attract attention. You can still see all the gambling action after taking the one step back demanded. He was told to take a step back from a line that actually was not in the casino. I think it is a little ridiculous especially when they are obviously trying everything possible to get the attention of the reluctant gambler. Young people are more vulnerable to the intended enticement. They won't hide the casino sights and sounds so to all those not allowed in, look away and stick your fingers in your ears. By the way I did not win anything with my 20 dollars.

Longaberger "basket bingo" is big here as a fundraiser for good causes here in Ohio. My friend with a 2 month old babe in arms was kicked out due to the "no one under 18" law.

Now if only other rules were enforced as rigorously as this, e.g. no kids in adults only hot tubs.

OK, you got my attention (LOL!) but to say you were "thrown out" of the casino is a bit of an exaggeration, don't you think? More accurately, you were asked to leave an area of the ship that's restricted to those 18 and older, just as you and your baby might have been asked to leave the spa, the gym or any other adults only area. Glad you're not harboring any "hard feelings" which, BTW, wouldn't be justified even if you were. Thanks for the laugh (I think!) and for your contribution to the world of tabloid journalism.

On a serious note, I know that on land the gambling laws are enforced very strictly as casinos can quickly lose their licenses for things like allowing minors in a casino. I realize things may be a bit more lax at sea, but at the same time the employees might be firmly instructed to make sure there are no minors in the casino. That is really the point - anyone under the age of 18 or 21, depending on the laws, is considered a minor. It does not matter if they are 2 mos or 2 years. As such, they are not to be in a casino.

Sorry but we all know that children are not allowed in a casino.

I'm sure the OP was aware of that, thus I can't help but think his/her(?) post was nothing more than an attempt at tongue-in-cheek humor. It was, wasn't it???????

I used to get DS off to sleep with the sound of the vacuum cleaner running :)
Every time I sang, it got my DS off to sleep.

Maybe the kid was caught cheating.

You deserve a medal for your attitude.

Some people of authority forget: "To walk a mile in the other person's shoes" prior to being so stern.

A similar thing happened to me once in the lobby of a hotel in Toronto.

My wife wanted a shower prior to going to a party. We had 3 children with us.

I took the children to the lobby of the hotel while she had a shower.

The lobby had a open bar area [the bar service area was part of the open lobby] and the 4 of us sat down.

I was told to leave the only seating area in the lobby because my children were under age for drinking.

This thread gets more entertaining by the post. Since when is "Sir, you have to leave now" the stern voice of authority? What would you have preferred the staff member to do? Send a candy-gram?

Guess you had to gamble a little more there ;)

We were on Equinox in December with my (at the time) 14 month old. My husband and I spent pretty much every evening in the casino (at least one of us if we didn't have anyone to stay in with the sleeping baby) and our son did come to visit the staff during the afternoon on sea days. I saw someone about to say something to us after glancing at him but the casino manager was there so he decided not to, I guess.

We didn't try to gamble with him there or anything- just brought him by a couple of times to say hi. The bar staff and the dealers loved him.
