Waterloomarc Posted March 8, 2011 #26 Share Posted March 8, 2011 I learned that somehow my wife and I require less storage and more clothes than other cruisers here on CC. Before our first cruise I read numerous threads about the lack of storage (space bags, shoe holders etc) and to pack only half as much as you think... so once on the ship we found we had tons of storage that we didn't need to use, even in the bathroom, and both of us darn near ran out of clean clothes! Next cruise is the end of April and by god I'm bringing another suitcase! ;)
lharry Posted March 9, 2011 #27 Share Posted March 9, 2011 What is the coin thing you are talking about? This sounds intriguing! Thanks, dsc Its an old ship builders tradition where the coins are usually placed in the keel of a ship as an offering to the gods so that they will allow it safe passage. Now they mostly just symbolize good luck. Here is an article on it: http://www.oceaniacruisesblog.com/ta...eellaying.html (stolen from someone else's post)
jobell Posted March 9, 2011 #28 Share Posted March 9, 2011 I have met some amazing people, learned a lot of information and have rolled my eyes more than I can count at the negative, unhappy and certified asshats that think they are better than everyone else. But I do give thanks to those who take the time to provide info, random did you knows, etc which made our first cruise that much easier and more enjoyable because we weren't analyzing every little thing. Now with 2 cruises under my belt I feel I can give back and provide information, etc to all those new cruisers even if they ask the same question 20 times over. bcs819 Posted March 9, 2011 #29 Share Posted March 9, 2011 Is this possible to combine your status of Princess and Carnival? Or does it just apply for past guest discount when booking? Thanks! NO, it does not count towards Platinum. Just gets you the past guest rate.
Rare richstowe Posted March 9, 2011 #30 Share Posted March 9, 2011 Does anyone know if being a past guest on Carnival qualifies for any sort of discount on Princess? TIA. You should qualify for a past guest rate Wow ! learning something else from CC. What about the other CCL lines such as - Costa Cruises (Costa), Holland America Line, P&O Cruises, AIDA Cruises (AIDA), Cunard Line (Cunard), Ibero Cruises (Ibero), Ocean Village, P&O Cruises Australia and The Yachts of Seabourn (Seabourn). Do you qualify (if they have one) for past guest rate?
SadieN Posted March 9, 2011 #31 Share Posted March 9, 2011 You will qualify for the past guest rate (if available) on the sister lines. I never paied attention to shoes until I started reading CC.:p

Tennessee Rose Posted March 20, 2011 #33 Share Posted March 20, 2011 Really? I've never seen a map to the secret doors. Where do you pick these up??? lharry: There aren't paper maps, but I had found this link that explains where the secret doors are on different classes of Carnival ships, along with maps/diagrams. I kept reading posts about secret doors, but not much info on where they are. This is a great link to find the info on the ship you will be on. I hope this is an appropriate way to do this, take out the extra spaces: http (colon)(slash)(slash) www dot unofficialcarnivalwiki dot com (slash) wiki (slash) Secret (underline) Door Hope this helps! :)
angiegal Posted March 20, 2011 #34 Share Posted March 20, 2011 I wish I had found cc before my first cruise. But, since then I have learned: 1. the definition of "troll" 2. it's ok to remove an orange from an unoccupied deck chair after 30minutes 3. ordering more than one thing in the dining room is normal- and yummy! 4. what clamshells and cabanas are 5. which underwater camera to buy 6. that some people will just never be happy, even on vacation! 7. that flying fish are real 8. the meaning of DH DS DD DW, etc. 9. that the plexiglass balcony railing is like a mirror. I only wish our neighbor in the bathrobe had known that ;) 10. to RELAX when you are on a cruise! Yes, it sucks if someone cuts in front of you in the buffet line, but, hey, someone cut in front of you in the buffet line on a CRUISE SHIP!!! That's better than someone cutting in front of you at work :D
cdamion Posted March 20, 2011 #35 Share Posted March 20, 2011 Does anyone know if being a past guest on Carnival qualifies for any sort of discount on Princess? TIA. No. It does not. Princess would not offer me any past guest discount when I first sailed with them. On the other hand, the casino benefits (if you gamble) are recognized between both lines because they are both run by Ocean Player's Club
cdamion Posted March 20, 2011 #36 Share Posted March 20, 2011 You will qualify for the past guest rate (if available) on the sister lines. cdamion Posted March 20, 2011 #38 Share Posted March 20, 2011 ...and because of Cruise Critic, I: -have learned so much about things on board the ships that aren't really advertised, -tried dishes that people love that I wouldn't otherwise try, -met really cool people on board the ships, -spent way too much free time on the computer, -know of "secret" spots on different ships that most other passengers never find, -found some fantastic shore excursions and guides booked off of the ship, -know which cabins to avoid, -travel vicariously through other people's photo reviews, etc., etc. It is a very good resource. I take every criticism and praise read on here with a grain of salt and draw my own conclusions. Seriously, it has made my cruise experiences better.
