DjVyrus69 Posted March 3, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Anyone stayed at this hotel before? Would love some feedback as it looks like its in a great location and has pricing in my budget.
riffatsea Posted March 3, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Sorry, I have not stayed at that hotel. The location will require that you use bus along Gran Via or Metro at Placa Espanya to get to most tourist sites except the Magic Fountain(at night) the Tablao Carmen(for flamenco at night) MNAC museum. It is OK but not absolutely best for a first visit. Here is a page from Venere.com where I put in your dates and price range under $150. It appears that there are lots of choices. One inexpensive one is the Mare Nostrum which is not fancy but is in the middle of "the action" if that is something you want.I have a friend who stayed at the B Hotel(more expensive) in the Placa Espanya area because she specifically wanted to be near the Sants train station to get an early train to Montserrat. For the 2nd half of her stay she moved closer to Placa Catalunya which is a better hub area. http://www.venere.com/spain/barcelona/#p|1;f:o|venere_ranking-t|all-z|all_areas-r|r3-c|all_rate
DjVyrus69 Posted March 3, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted March 3, 2011 The Mare Nostrum looks great, but its a shared bathroom, and I want a private one.
riffatsea Posted March 3, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2011 OOps! Sorry! I did not go into each listing on the Venere list. I just know a friend who stays there BUT they DO take a room with a private bathroom. UNfortunately I went to the Mare Nostrum web site and all the private bath rooms are gone for your dates!! Hmm? We can both go back to the Venere list and see if anything else is close to Placa Catalunya. Otherwise if you can book this Ayres Hotel with NO charge , just hold the res with a credit card, then I'd DO that . You can always cancel and rebook somewhere else if we/you find something better. I did not see anything better on the Venere list. Here are the reviews from Trip Advisor for the Ayre Hotel Gran Via. They are not bad at all in general. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187497-d646326-Reviews-Ayre_Hotel_Gran_Via-Barcelona_Catalonia.html
DjVyrus69 Posted March 3, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted March 3, 2011 I actually went through venere and secured a reservation at Hostal Mont Thabor, its right on Ramblas, it has mixed reviews on tripadvisor, but the bad ones are mainly the older reviews. They have probably gotten better since, and it has a private bathroom, and looks very clean. http://www.venere.com/hostals/barcelona/hostal-mont-thabor/ http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187497-d628426-Reviews-Hostal_Mont_Thabor-Barcelona_Catalonia.html

DjVyrus69 Posted March 3, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Thanks, but I'm still looking around to see if I can find something nicer for a little bit more. The DW didn't like the look of this one LOL
chrispb Posted March 4, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 4, 2011 We'll be staying at Hotel Lleo which is near Placa Catalunya. It's on the same street as Hotel Jazz but much cheaper. You'd need to check the prices as they may have gone up since we booked.
riffatsea Posted March 4, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 4, 2011 WHEW! I didn't want to say something after all your work but I didn't like the look of that Hostal either!! It is too bad that the race that weekend has made it so difficult for you! I just checked the hotel were I usually stay for 90-100 euro a night and it is up to 180euro+!! I think you should book something while you look as I mentioned in an earlier post!
DjVyrus69 Posted March 4, 2011 Author #10 Share Posted March 4, 2011 Well I actually had to cancel it completely because they decided TO CHARGE MY CARD after the venere site said the card info is only to secure the reservation. So now I have a $90 hold on my account that I can't get rid of until they void it. But it looks like I'm going to go for the Silken Concordia, I love the price and location.
