Any recent CENTURY cruisers?

Thinking of sending somebody on a 4 night Century out of Florida.

 

I've read the reviews, but was hoping more people would chime in.

 

How was your recent experience on Century vis a vis food and service?

 

 

Have you done a 4 night cruise and other than the shorter trip, do you feel there's other differences where compared to a longer cruise?

The worst cruise experience was on the Century last Oct. 13 on a 12 night Med. Cruise. Rudder broke on the 2nd night and captain ordered all passengers off the ship in Ville France. The captain & senior officers disappeared to leave the passengers to fend for themselves. Celebrity gave passenger stingy 25% of cost of cruise off a next cruise, to be used within a year as a form of compensation for the "Inconvenience".

We took a 12 nt. Med. cruise Sep. 2010 on Century and were pleased with all service and food in buffet and Muranos...

 

We had select dining and were not impressed with food in MDR.

We all have different experiences eating on cruise ships. I am a lifelong vegetarian and the kitchen and dining room staff of the Century were so good to me, I was amazed. Every evening the assistant maitre d' would come to my table to discuss what I would like to eat the next evening! They were incredible. When I mentioned to the sushi chef that I had a favorite vegetarian item ... tamago (sp?) ... he said he would make it for me every evening! And he did!

 

I just feel compelled to say that I ate really good food in the Century MDR, prepared and presented by people who really wanted me to be happy with my meal.

 

It is also true that I ate well on the Constellation and Millennium. I think Celebrity really goes out of its way in its attempts at meeting the dining needs of its guests. It is a big reason I keep coming back. Perhaps it's because my food choices are not so commonplace, but I have eaten some really nice food on these ships. And Murano, well Murano was

brilliant. The chef came out to discuss what he thought I might like when I went in a few days early to give them a heads up about being vegetarian. I ate like royalty the evening we dined there, down to little crossed asparagus spears they gratuitously brought out for me when we started the meal.

 

I am really looking forward to eating on the Century again on the Panama Canal trip!

Hi, cruisecrasy.

 

Cabin 1068 is in the middle of the Penthouse deck and surrounded by sky suites. It will be a large cabin with a huge veranda. You will love it, I think. The only real difference between the sky suites on Penthouse deck and Sports deck is the overhang. The overhang on the Penthouse deck covers the whole of the veranda since there is a deck above you and the Sports Deck has half an overhang from the walking area above it.

I shall love it - I actually prefer a full balcony cover over the partial ones..of course esp when it is very hot and I face the afternoon sun :)..

 

Do u agree that Celebrity shld be a tad more diligent in updating its website info and also other companies sites carrying Celebrity info? I mean, Century has had larger balconies since 2006 - can't use the excuse that the work was just done! By not doing so some of us poor folks get 'tersed' & accused of being authorities when we quote their misinformation..:D

Was wondering if any recent Century cruisers can tell me if my DH will be over dressed in a tux on formal night. This is our 2nd Century cruise (9th X over all), we first sailed on her back during her first year of service.

We know that sometimes the shorter sailings are less formal than others, and DH can't decide to bring a tux or not. Our last cruise in November was on NCL (ugh, never again) and that was more of a.... lets say... informal crowd with more of a relaxed dress code.

Also do they still do the "white party" event?

We're so looking forward to returning to Celebrity again and would appreciate feedback on this.

Maybe I am not understanding you. Including the dining room? I know

many folks think there is not alot of evening activity on Celebrity but I

have never had a problem finding things to do. I have late seating and

when dinner is over I rarely go to a show...I find a lounge to relax in,

find a table in the casino sometimes or just stroll outside. Nothing to

do after 9:00? Like I said, I will be in the dining room eating till at least

10:00:)

 

While eating gives me great pleasure and enjoyment, I don't consider it entertainment. Beside the fact if you have early seating, you're not it the dining room at 10pm.

 

This is a classic example of people taking what a poster says and twisting it into something else. I never said, as you state, that there is "nothing to do". I stated there are not a lot of options. And there aren't. And as you have you stated, many others agree with that observation. We walked from lounge to lounge only to find them completely empty except for possibly a bartender. No music, not even other people to talk to. You could shoot off a canon and not hit anyone.

 

My statement was addressed to the question of the Century, not Celebrity in general.

 

Other, larger ships, including Celebrities, have a variety of entertainment options in the later evening. While the Century is a great ship and we had a great cruise, entertaimment in the evening was lacking.

There will be some men in tuxedos - hard to know exactly how many, but my guess is around 10% - 15% if it is a cruise of 4, 5 or 6 nights (more on cruises with two formal nights). The vast majority will be in business suits. I don't think he will be overdressed, but whether he will feel comfortable standing out a bit (in a good way!) is up to him. I cruise frequently and haven't seen a white party on Celebrity. Perhaps someone else?

There won't be many wearing a tux. Maybe a handful, from what I observed. But he definately won't look out of place. I'm sure he'll look pretty snappy.

 

Tell him if he enjoys wearing it, by all means, go for it.

I was on the century in January with my wife. Great ship, one of my favorites. Had a century suite with a great view of the wake. Was able to find some entertainment to stay out late every night:D.

The shorter the cruise, the fewer tuxes. DH has just taken a blazer (no tie) on the last two cruises and he was fine.

I just took my fourth cruise on Centruy. It is a treasure.

The ship is beautiful, the staff exceptional, it is a wonderful cruise.

I prefer the five day to the four but you must fit your schedule.

 

Our kids always enjoy Celebrity (we know no other line). The question is how many other teens/kids happen to be on the sailing. Late March should be full of kids on break.

DH usually takes his Tux, but not for a 5 day cruise. Too bulky and heavy to pack for 1 Formal Night. He also opts for a blazer, but does do a tie for Formal Night.

 

On our last 5 day cruise on the Century we saw some Tuxes, but it was not the norm on that particular cruise.

It would make absolute sense to me if they would eliminate formal nights on 5 night and shorter cruises. Just doesn't make sense, in my opinion, to pack formal for that short of a cruise.
