Earliest plane/train after JOS in Boston?

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on Jewel Canada/New England in October. For anyone who has sailed Jewel (or other ships) from Boston, what would you recommend as the earliest flight or train possible when getting off? Flights are all aroung 9:30 AM; but there is an Amtrak train at 10:30 and 11:40 AM from the downtown station. Granted any delay of the ship is possible but woud love to hear from those who have disembarked in Boston.

We were on the transatlantic last fall - so that probably accounts for the delay in disembarkation - but the first people didn't leave the ship until almost 9am and that was the self-disembark group and it took a while. We were in about the 5th or 6th group to leave the ship (with at least 15 more groups to follow) and didn't leave the ship until sometime after 10:30am.

The port is about 10 minutes away from the airport, barring any traffic. South Station is about 5 minutes away via taxi. The issue is when will the ship clear, I would say if you doing walk off the train won't be an issue. The airport security can be very long over 30 minutes.

We were on the Jewel in October on the members cruise with 1200 C&A members, so the priority departure group was pretty large. Even with all those diamonds and a large autism at sea group that also got priority, we were off by 9:30 and home by 10:15 even after stopping for bagels for our son at home.:D

Is it possible to make the 11:40 AM train given normal disembarkation?

It should be quite possible. South Station is only a few minutes away from Black Falcon Terminal and you don't need to go through the security setup that you would encounter at the airport. You might want to check with Amtrak about how your luggage will be handled. We have relatives who take the train from Boston to Florida for a cruise and they need to bring their luggage into South Station the day before their train leaves in order to insure that their luggage will be in Florida when they arrive. :)

We would only be on a short leg to New Jersey but thanks for the heads up on the luggage!
