HokieK Posted April 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2011 Hi, we're taking our 3 yr old on a RCI Enchantment of the Seas cruise to Bermuda in October 2011. Can I bring sand toys on board in my luggage so that he'll have something to dig with/make castles while on the beach? Has anyone done this before? Thanks in advance! nyer Posted April 5, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2011 My DD and her DH went to Bermuda last year with their then 2 1/2 yr old. They brought sand toys for her and she had a blast digging on the beach. Have a great cruise.
rebeccalouiseagain Posted April 5, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2011 Of course you can. Bring water shoes too. The sand is pink and granual and there are bits of pottery and things sometimes in the water that might scratch her feet.
Kerry's Girls Posted April 5, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 5, 2011 It's a good idea because they're light, inexpensive and don't take up much space. We usually leave ours behind in the last port for the next kids to play with rather than trying to clean and re-pack it. Best, Mia
milton333 Posted April 5, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 5, 2011 Yes, and if you wanted to, you can buy beach toys from RCCL's Gifts and Gear and have them waiting for you aboard the ship: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/giftcatalog/category/home.do?catCode=YOUTH
jac1976 Posted April 5, 2011 #6 Share Posted April 5, 2011 I just did this for our Disney Cruise. I got some buckets, shovels, and sand molds at the dollar store and put them in our suitcases. My kids had a blast playing on the beach, and it was a great way to get them playing with other kids as they were willing to share. They played with their new friends all day long. AJI2596 Posted April 5, 2011 #7 Share Posted April 5, 2011 I have a ton of beach stuff I am bringing with us. The kids would be bored at the beach if I didn't bring anything.
cb at sea Posted April 5, 2011 #8 Share Posted April 5, 2011 Sure, folks do it all the time. Stuff clothes, underwear, socks, bathing suits, etc...into the bucket in your suitcase, so no room is wasted! Little kids are also happy with cups, spoons, shells, sticks, etc....doesn't take "storebought" to please them !
twinmom08 Posted April 6, 2011 #9 Share Posted April 6, 2011 I am leaving on Saturday for RCCL Bermuda cruise with my 3 year old twins. I ordered the "kids pack" from their gifts section. It comes with sand chair, toys, etc. in a mesh bag. They deliver it to your stateroom. It was relatively inexpensive and beats the hassle of dragging that stuff yourself. HokieK Posted April 6, 2011 Author #10 Share Posted April 6, 2011 thanks everyone! We are driving to our port so it's not a problem of flying with the sand toys...more of a concern with the cruise ship people not letting us bring them on (ie "this shovel is a weapon"). LOL! I have a very active 3 year old son so without something to do at the beach, we'd all go crazy. Now I'm looking forward to this cruise even more! crusinmama06 Posted April 11, 2011 #11 Share Posted April 11, 2011 HAHAHAHA I love your concern! As many things on the "naughty list" they have yet to ban sand shovels. :D One year I forgot to pack ours and ended up paying $16.99 for a sand bucket in Cozumel. Yeah, I'll never forget our sand toys again! :p
bluesharpie Posted April 11, 2011 #12 Share Posted April 11, 2011 I think I remember seeing them for purchase in the rental place at Horseshoe Bay (someone on the Bermuda board would know better). My son befriended a local family who were happy to share their toys :) We loved the lagoon area at HSB. There is a pharmacy in the dockyard that also carried beach items if I recall correctly.
