bajathree Posted April 7, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2011 The Mouse's great European vacation is over -- for now. In 2012, Disney Cruise Line's four-ship fleet will be stationed at five points around the United States....http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=4441 Interesting....I wounder if Royal or other cruise lines will start to follow suit. klingoncruiser Posted April 7, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2011 Cagey answers from the person in charge. Looks like Disney is looking for places to expand and places that may not be overloaded with ships.
aggiejade Posted April 7, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2011 I am thrilled that Disney is doing 4 Pacific Coastal cruises. I live in Ca and prefer to drive to port rather than fly so I can save money. The itinerary for this cruise is great in my opinion. I have never cruised Disney but I will be in 2012. You won't when you compare the prices from similar cabins/itineraries. You still save money with Royal.

Moeve Posted April 7, 2011 #6 Share Posted April 7, 2011 Disney does NOT have the kind of following in Europe as it does in the US. The other cruiselines however are getting their share of a still growing market so they will stay. In Europe most people with children would never even dream of spending the kind of money Disney wants for a cruise when there are alternatives on the market which actually allows children up to 18 to cruise free or for a minimal fee of 150,- euros. Errr, I don't think so. RCI/Celeb have increased their presence this year by about 50% from 2011, and whilst I do not expect quite the same is 2013 I know that they are fully committed to a European program for the foreseeable future. Verfai Posted April 7, 2011 #9 Share Posted April 7, 2011 I am so disappointed in the narrow mindedness of some people here :(...why do so many here want the ships to pull out of Europe!? I don’t care if this starts flame, but its thread after thread with this topic (or like this topic, No personal offence to thread starter :))... I dont get what the big deal is!? There a still plenty of ships in the US, Canada, Mexico, South America and Caribbean waters, (since this is the RCI board=) this including the two biggest cruise ships in the world...There are of the 22 large ship fleet, in July of this year, both oasis classes, one freedom class, one voyager, two radiance, two vision and both sovereign classes... You don’t have enough to choose from :S, and this is only the RCI fleet!? If RCI wouldn’t have deployed freedom classes to EU waters, I would not have picked up the cruise virus...So I am very thankful :D. Personally I find it great to travel to other countries, not per see to do cruising but to get out there and see the world, in my 30 years of being on this ONE planet, I’ve already been twice to the states (NY and Orlando/Miami) and planning on going again in next two years to be on a Oasis class (or by then maybe a sunshine class ;)). Anyhow...I also needed to blow some steam of, I am starting to get the RCI commercials and need a break from work ;). Greets
isdoo Posted April 7, 2011 #10 Share Posted April 7, 2011 Greed (probably) People always want more locally - it is a natural thing - people see it as if they are losing out. RCI have publicly stated that they make more money in Europe than they do in the USA (per berth) - so it makes sense to increase capacity in Europe. Greets I recently read an article stating that this decade in cruising will be known as the decade of European growth. That's why so many cruise lines are moving ships over to your side of the pond. Growth here in the U.S is flat. People can complain all they want but cruise lines are following the growth and money. About Disney. In the past, they rotated one year in Europe and the next year they skipped it. Not a big deal but unless something major happens I don't see the major U.S lines moving ships back over here. Debde Posted April 7, 2011 #12 Share Posted April 7, 2011 Yup-just heard on the news this morning Disney is moving to the NY city pier with Wonder. Not sure when-did not have my coffee yet to comprehend the whole discussion.:o
Jenjer Posted April 7, 2011 #13 Share Posted April 7, 2011 I just checked a couple of prices for a spring 2012 Disney cruise and wow!!! way to much coin for me.
Attapooch Posted April 7, 2011 #14 Share Posted April 7, 2011 More options are never a bad thing, but the wife loathes everything Disney and I'm not much of a fan, either. However, other cruise lines upping the ante in the New York market might prompt Royal Caribbean to do the same - especially if there's perceived competition for the families-with-children market. yj2cute Posted April 7, 2011 #15 Share Posted April 7, 2011 This is actually quite interesting. I've never cruised Disney and never really had the desire before with them not having a casino and of course their very high prices. The number of kids hasn't been a draw either. But I've ready many reviews raving about their ships, shows and adult areas, so I admit I'm curious. I think I just may hop on one of those weekenders just to try it out. I swore of 2 night cruises to nowhere years ago, but may have to make an exception for this. Depending on the price, may even think about a 5 night Canada. nelblu Posted April 7, 2011 #17 Share Posted April 7, 2011 It's a wonderful event for Disney to berth in NYC. In the olden days NYC was the capital for the cruise ships. It also gives families flexibility when choosing a cruise--no air fare. Understand that they are more expensive, however, I read somewhere that on their 8 days cruise which stops at Cape it includes transportation and day pass to any of the Disney parks. Mewissy Posted April 7, 2011 #18 Share Posted April 7, 2011 I looked into their itineraries out of NY and think some are great options. There is an 8-night out of NY that stops at their private island, Nassau, and Port Canaveral. The dock in PC at 6:15am and leave at 11:30pm and a hopper pass to the parks and transportation is included. Sounds wonderful if you're going to travel with kids.
