2xshy Posted April 7, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2011 Can anyone give me any insight as to which time of year is most pleasant for a Venice to Rome (May) or Venice to Cannes (October), 2012? May is on Voyager, October on Mariner. Any thoughts would be helpful in planning our 35th anniversary trip. Thanks in advance.
wapato2 Posted April 7, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2011 I'd lean slightly towards May, but either one would be OK for me. Someone else might have an opinion on the ships involved.
elmwood Posted April 7, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2011 Both times of the year are lovely. I would probably go for October as top tourist attractions will likely be a little less crowded. When we were in Florence and Rome in May, the two towns were swamped with American college students on art history tours.
orchestrapal Posted April 7, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 7, 2011 About 8 visits to Italy in May with not a drop of rain and temps. in the 70's and no crowds anywhere. One October visit with rain every other day. But Italy is great at anytime. I guess it's just how lucky you are.:)
Travelcat2 Posted April 8, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 8, 2011 Either season is fine. I just prefer the Spring when everything is in bloom. By October, the sun has baked a lot of the beauty away.
OrpingtonT Posted April 8, 2011 #6 Share Posted April 8, 2011 There is little doubt that Venice is better in May. Later in the year the canals can get a bit smelly. For the rest of the ports, I don't think it matters much.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted April 8, 2011 #7 Share Posted April 8, 2011 Depending on what part of May, the days will be longer then than in October. Something to consider. I like the Med in May, but I'd happily do either!
grapejuice Posted April 10, 2011 #8 Share Posted April 10, 2011 I absolutely love Venice, but found it had a definite smell about it, all year round. Rome in October is the best, but don't tell anyone.
Cruisertommyboy Posted April 10, 2011 #9 Share Posted April 10, 2011 Also, I am looking at the Mariner Oct 30 2012 from Venice to Monte Carlo. How warm is that section of the Med in the end of Oct. I love this itenerary and its 1400 pp cheaper than in Sept. Any of you Regent vets have any thoughts Thanks Tom

seattlesloop Posted April 12, 2011 #11 Share Posted April 12, 2011 We have spent time in Italy in both months. You can't go wrong with either choice.
