This might be a stupid question but...

some sales give OBC (usually much higher rates to get it)

stock, 100 shares

FCC

price drops with ES rate

I got some misc for other reasons too. I cancelled a 3rd pax, the refund was added to my OBC. I got a 20% discount from something else, instead of a credit card refund, again it was more OBC.

Missing a port, you will get taxes on the port fees as more OBC.

The most common method is via a price reduction for a cruise that you booked as Early Saver. Price protection is honored up to two business days prior to sailing and is applied to your account as on board credit.

You can also 'purchase' OBC from the Bon Voyage department to be applied to your on board account.

With Carnival Fare Viewer getting OBC is a breeze. OBC is not extra money. It is money you have already spent. Instead of it being used to pay your cruise ticket you get to spend that amount on drinks, photos, t-shirts or other items. You can get on board credit many ways. Purchasing a Future Cruise Certificate, purchase over one hundred shares of Carnival stock. If taxes or port fees go down you get OBC. If one of your already paid excursions gets canceled you get OBC. You can purchase Fun ship Dollars. No matter how much OBC you have or whatever deposit you put on your sail & sign card. It is not difficult to find ways to spend it. Have a fun cruise. :)
