Am thinking of taking a cruise on RCL but on looking through the brochure,it states that there is no self-service laundrette onboard, can anyone enlighten me as to whether this is correct.

If so,what are the laundry/dry cleaning fees.

Thank you:confused:

correct, no self service, only a dryclean/pressing service ,then an occassional wash and fold bag.

No, no self service laundry on board. The price list is under the FAQs on their site

I found the laundry list provided to be a little ridiculous. There is no option for women's jeans, t-shirts or other basic clothes, seems to only have "high end" options (silk blouses, etc.) Also there wasn't anything listed for children's clothes so we kind of made up where item should go (ie I put my jeans and t-shirt in as men's, DS' blanket as a hankerchief) and they accepted it all. I think it was about $7 total for 1 outfit for me, 1 outfit for DS and the little blanket.

No self service laundry and they Xray your luggage and confiscate travel irons. Steamers are allowed- they used to confiscate them, too but then started selling steamers in their onboard store.- LOL

Not true - they now take the steamers also...I just had one taken 2 weeks ago and even talked to them saying it was a steamer, they said you cant have it...you can send things out just to be ironed..one more expense.

Thanks for all your responses!

Do not think I will be booking a RCI cruise then...will stick with P&O,great self-service facilties on all decks.

I take a travel iron with me but never need to use...people say that P&O

did not allow them..but several posts said that they had took them with them.

On the FAQ`S for P&O it states "we prefer you not to take travelling irons"...PREFER not actually you..CANNOT.

Of course,by having to pay for all one`s laundry,it is more income for RCI.

By the way,Celebrity Cruises don not have self-service facility either

If you are picking P&O over RCI due to self-service laundry, have fun! BTW, yes we understand the Celebrity does not have self service laundry also as they are owned by RCCL.

Nor does NCL. Apparently thousands of passengers are somehow able to enjoy a cruise on those lines even without being able to spend some of their valuable vacation time doing laundry.

I don't understand refusing to try a cruiseline because of a lack of self-service laundry, but that's just me. When I went on my 17-night cruise with RCI, they offered plenty of "laundry bag" specials ... $25 for all you can stuff into a bag (and I mean stuff). Sure, it's a little pricey, but once I add together the costs of washing, drying, detergent, and the time I spend, it's worth it to me. I've spent my time in a hot, humid cruiseship laundry room with dryers that won't actually get anything dry, and it was a miserable experience.

The company is unfailing polite in its choice of wording but did you ever think to inquire why they "prefer" that you not take traveling irons? If it is for safety reasons because irons are considered to be fire hazards, perhaps you might take their preference that you not bring yours a bit more seriously.

Having seen the conflicts that can arise between passengers in the laundry rooms of ships that have them, because someone either failed to return on time to remove their clothes from the machines or who returned to find that someone had the audacity to perform that task for them, I prefer to let the cruiseline handle my laundry and, as someone has already mentioned, the special laundry bag offers make that option much less costly

I was in the laundry room on a P&O ship when a very heated argument broke out because someone had taken someones clothes out of a dryer because they hadn't come back to do it themselves. I too wish they had some facilities on RCI but not if its all going to turn nasty and I prefer RCI anyway

I ran a dark load on a Princess ship once and the passenger before me must have done a bleach load because my clothes were ruined. It was convenient to have the laundry room available, but it was a bummer about my clothes. I'd rather use my own machine where I know what's going on. Oh well, no biggie, just mentioning.

I certainly do not choose a cruise line based on laundry rooms.:) I guess this will always be a hotly contested issue for some.

You pick a cruise line simply because it has a self service laundry.:rolleyes:

What happened to the old reasons such as service, itineraries, and quality:rolleyes:

I would imagine that people in the "vacation" mindset (and on a ship) would tend to be even less considerate about promptly removing items from a machine than in the dorms (where, at least in my dorms, things could easily walk away). But then again ... I've always been an optimist. ;)

I had a great idea. How about a kitchenette in every stateroom too. That way my DW could cook all my meals and clean up after each one as well. Who needs all that "service" in the MDR anyway? I'm sure she wouldn't mind. In fact I just suggested it to her and she laughed. She must think it's a great idea too!

I remember back to 2003 on the island of Kauai, the second island of a two week vacation to Hawaii sitting in the hotel's hot self service laundry. Took about 2 hours of my vacation to wash and dry clothes. DW stopped in once with drink in hand (her drink, not mine) on her way to the pool just to see how I was doing. Wasn't that sweet of her. Never will do self service laundry on vacation ever again.

I agree that self-serve if a nice perk. Every cruiser has a thing for what is important on a cruise and with so many lines and ships everybody can be happy.

I have read some people refuse to cruise Disney because there is no casino. For me it is absolutely unnecessary.

Yes, not self service. As noted above, toward the end of the week (on a week long cruise) they offer a special. I think it's 20 bucks and they will wash certian types of clothes, as many as you can fit in the bag which is provided.

When we went on an Alaska cruise tour, I used the laundry facilities. I was very happy that they had them. The airlines charge so much for luggage. It is nice to pack light and know you can do some laundry if you need to. I also saw other women using the iron, in the laundry room, to touch up their dresses on formal night. I used the facilities again when we went on a 10 day cruise from Florida to the Southern Caribbean. While I don't want to spend all my time doing laundry on vacation, I am glad I was able to pack lightly and take advantage of washing out a few things. I have also used the RCI laundry bags. Cost a lot more to use and, at least the time I used them, they were for whites only. May have changed.
