Transiting YCR - 6 hours

Recommended Posts

VYR has a number of restaurants throughout the terminals - from fast food to sit down - have you checked the YVR website - there should be a list of them on it - otherwise Scott Bee or Putterdude should be along with suggestions - I don`t fly so my visits to the airport are few and far between but did get some sense of what is there during the Olympics last year as I was a blue jacket volunteer.

Here`s a link to the restaurants at the Airport:

I see that there is a White Spot there - they are a local chain that has been around for more than 75 years http://www.whitespot.ca

Cheers

I am transiting YCR from Anchorage in the evening with a 5-1/2 hour layover. Don't know if I can leave the airport or will be stuck at the terminal. Any suggestions for a decent dinner?

Head to the 7-11 in the airport, buy a $9 all day transit pass and head out on Canada Line. Right at the airport there's the normal variety of dining facilities pre-security; but if you head out, the world's your oyster for not much more travel. Bridgeport station; there's a large casino with a big buffet and a great noodle bar cafe; transfer at Bridgeport and head down #3 road and there's plenty of good restaurants, or even toward downtown (it's only 24 minutes to downtown on the Skytrain line).

If you're looking for something off the beaten path, take Skytrain to Broadway/City Hall, and head West on Broadway, plenty of interesting restaurants, including the Banana Leaf (great Malay)

Was there a specific cuisine you were looking for?

Canada Line to King Edward Station and exit left to the first building. Chinese "Hot Pot"

Landmark Hot Pot restaurant. Unique.... way different from what generally is known as a Chinese restaurant. We discovered it while at the curling during Olympics. Been back three times...ask for help if you have never been to such a place before.

17 mins from Airport.

Thank you all for your comments. I want to make the most of my last hours in Canada before a very long flight so a nice sit down dinner is on the agenda. Now I have some ideas - places on the Canada Line seems to be the go. Again, my thanks.

if you decide to leave, don't forget you will have to go through Canadian customs and immigration on the way in....allow 45 minutes from touchdown and US customs and immigration on the way out plus 30 minutes in each direction on the canada line. You will have about 2 to 2 1/2 hours to play with. For fine dining (somewwhat expensive) try the fairmont hotel in the airport. You can check their menu here
