Cruise Junky Posted April 26, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2011 How mobile is the 80 yr old? can she walk a few blocks? if not, then a taxi. If she can walk to the bus stop then it's definitely the cheaper option.

Cruise Junky Posted April 26, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 26, 2011 Is it hard to get a taxi from Oia? Does the bus take a long time It can be. You might want to contract with a taxi driver in Fira to take you out and wait. For a few people it will be cheaper than a tour. Bus is around 20 mins I think, if that. MarleneAm Posted April 26, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 26, 2011 If you are going when it's hot weather, do the 80 year old person a favor and take a ship's excursion that includes Oia. On a ship's excursion you will be tendered on to a tour bus and will not have to wait in the heat to go up in the cablecar, let alone walking and waiting for the bus in Fira. This way both of you will have the energy to walk around Oia and you will have a guaranteed ride back to Fira to take cable car down. When I was in Santorini in August 2008, even the tour guide on our excursion said it was too hot for him. In Fira all I had strength for was ices, I did not have the energy to even walk the 10 minutes to the beautiful view in Firostephani- the one that's on all the magazine covers and calendars. Wear hats for the strong sun.
