Seward questions

Has anyone simply stayed in Seward instead of going to Anchorage? I believe our HAL cruise uses Seward as the access point. DH isn't thrilled with the idea of a 3-4 hour each way trip to get to Anchorage if there are interesting things to do in Seward. We'll be there from 7AM -11 PM. I did a search a found one mention of the Alaska Sea Life Center, but not much of anything else. Web sites list wildlife cruises, etc., but I wonder if anyone has experience? Thanks in advance for any info you can give.

Seward is VERY small; you walk along the bay from the harbor to the downtown, maybe a mile. Taxi's are very inexpensive to get around town if you don't want to walk. Its fun to wander around the harbor and watch the fisherman come in with their catch.

Take a taxi to Exit Glacier where you can walk a trail to the edge of the glacier.

Kenai Fjords day tours are a highlight for seeing seals, otters, probably whales, puffins, bald eagles, and watch an active glacier calve. Take a cruise that is at least 6 hrs, not the 3 hr Bay cruise.

Go to Thorns Showcase Lounge for halibut and chips " a bowl of but". It's a smokey locals place so go early or take out if the smoke will bother you. Best halibut ever!
