My granddaughters are animal lovers an have their heart set on the Dog Sledding/Helicopter excursion which is very expensive. Has anyone any experience with independents who offer this excursion?

There are, but I recently did some research for someone else that was trying to find it cheaper and what I found is that it was only like $10 difference between the ship and an independent excursion. So no big savings there.

 

Unfortunately, this is a very popular excursion and with it comes a very high price.

I booked directly if you call that independent. I saved enough to make it worthwhile, but not like savings you can get in some ports. We loved it!

 

You must book early as the companies reserve a large number their capacity for the cruiseline exclusive.

 

You must plan and have a backup plan.

 

Also be warned these are "working" animals so they live differently.

There are three companies out of Juneau and 1 out of Skagway to research. The savings aren't significant, but there is some.
