Train from Dover to London

Recommended Posts

Question - we arrive in Dover via the HAL Ryndam on Sunday, August 7th - how do we find the train schedule to London, do we need a reservation,

where does the train arrive in London? We need all of the details.

You'll need a taxi from the cruise terminal to the rail station, about £7 the vehicle, plenty of taxis, no need to book, you can probably share with like-minded cruisers.

Train to London St Pancras takes about 1 hr 10 mins. Hourly direct service, alternating with an hourly service with one change, fare about £34 pp.

Details at http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/planjourney/search

Your starting station is "Dover Priory"

Booking is not required, but may be cheaper.

You have the alternative of travel by coach http://www.nationalexpress.com/

Your start point is "Dover", plain & simple. Ignore the "cruise terminal" option, which is irrelevant for all but Fred Olsen cruises.

The pick-up point is Pencester Road in the town centre, so again a short taxi ride, about £7

Your destination is London (Victoria coach station)

Coach is cheaper, & will possibly cost only a couple of pounds per person if their "fun-fare" is available on your date.

London Victoria may be more convenient to your end destination.

For the coach, booking is required

John Bull :)

Edit; Ooops, just noticed its a sunday. Basic details the same, but reduced frequencies - check out your chosen date on the links. If the site declines to offer details because the date is too far away, choose a random sunday within the next 3 months, the service is unlikely to change.

Also check on that site for scheduled rail engineering works, which can foul-up weekend timetables.

More importantly where do you need to go in London?

There are multiple train services into London; visit http://nationalrail.co.uk/ and make sure you click "Show slower trains" on the search page. There is service into "London Bridge", "London Waterloo East", "London Charing Cross", "London St Pancras" and "London Victoria" if I remember correctly.

You can book online up to 60 (or is it 90) days in advance

Some trains go from Dover Priory to Victoria.

Some trains go from Dover Priory to Charing Cross, calling at London Bridge and Waterloo East on the way. (I think that there are also some weekday trains that go from Dover Priory to Cannon Street, calling at London Bridge on the way.)

Some trains go from Dover Priory to St Pancras.

Go to the National Rail website and look at the different train times, journey durations and prices. Go to a map and look at where these stations are, compared to where in London you need to get to. Then make your choice between them.
