meow! Posted June 15, 2011 Author #76 Share Posted June 15, 2011 Ditto for Silversea - it is a good time to be looking for cruises :) These fantastic discounts are being offered on many cruise lines, not just Oceania. In fact, Seabourn gets the nod for most deals coming into my in-box, with Regent running close behind. It seems most cruise lines, whether mass market, premium or luxury, are offering enticing discounts and incentives at the current time. It's a great time for the consumer. Fully agree, and we have said so too, time and again, on different boards. As usual, we are impartial to any cruise line. P.S. As for bad economy, it is world wide, look at Greece, Ireland, Spain, especially Japan, you name them! So pointing to poor economy is true and bona fide. It has nothing to do with honour, only how to plan on saving individual expenses versus cruise fares.
wripro Posted June 15, 2011 #77 Share Posted June 15, 2011 I agree that posting discounts and/or deals is a service to this board. However I don't think it's a service to tell the shipping lines how to design their ships.
meow! Posted June 15, 2011 Author #78 Share Posted June 15, 2011 Well, as for our suggestions on ship design, Oceania did have excellent toilet bowls on their R ships. We suggested it to Silversea before their newbuild Spirit's cabins were built, and were delighted to see that suggestion adopted. It might be a coincidence, or our public letter on this forum to Silversea might have been noticed. Good valid suggestions can in the long run be of public good. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=29458532#post29458532 (posting #11) "By the way, perhaps we made a small contribution to ship design for the public good: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1317609&highlight=jets&page=2 (posting #22) "The toilet itself was, however, vastly improved. On the Shadow/Whisper the toilet bowl flushing was weak, and did not flush completely, leaving toilet paper on the sides (we had to use glasses of water to flush it down to the bottom centre before it could be flushed away). We saw the much better “JETS” brand toilet bowls on Oceania R ships, and two years ago (before the Spirit’s cabins were built), we posted an open letter on this board to recommend that Silversea use those instead. (See http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=27073401#post27073401 posting #7 dated November 4, 2008). And while it could be a coincidence, we got what we desired (posting #10 of the same link). In addition to perfect flushing, the “JETS” toilet seat opening was half an inch larger all around, at 9.5”wide and 11.5” long (we also mentioned in our 2004 report that the Shadow/Whisper’s toilet seat openings were good for the female cat but a bit tight for the male cat)." I figured you'd just have a litter box in the corner of the room. :p
