Private car service transfers from London/Southhampton/Heathrow

Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone has any car service companies they can recommend for transportation from our London hotel (hyatt) to Southampton and from Southampton straight to Heathrow when the boat docks?

 

We would prefer not to take trains because there are 5 of us and we will have a ton of luggage.

 

Also, would a taxi be a possibility? Could they hold 5 and all of our luggage? And roughly how much would the fare be?

 

In Rome, we used Bob's Limousines, and it could not have worked out any better! So if there are any companies like that in London that would be great.

They are all locally-based, they're well-used to cruisers, & generally offer better value than London or airport-based businesses.

For a regular car expect to pay about £80 to £90 to Heathrow. About 80 minutes.

From central London to your ship perhaps £130 to £140. About 2 hours.

The big jump is because the extra 15 miles from central London (you pass close to Heathrow) can all be urban crawl, and a Govt congestion charge applies.

 

You'll probably be charged a little more than these guide prices cos you'll need a larger vehicle. Regular cars won't take 5 plus luggage, but they'll all have vehicles to suit. Advise them of your luggage, though they'll probably ask.

 

For these journeys you need to pre-book, don't simply hire a taxi from the rank or you will deprive the kids of their inheritence :eek: :D

They've been the city's major taxi company since I was a kid - longer ago than I care to remember ;) Perfectly reputable

Their website says they have all sizes & they quote Heathrow from £84, much the norm locally.

Winchester-based (10 miles from Southampton but on the way to Heathrow, so their prices should be in line). Again, well-established & reputable.

 

Both will be more used to dealing with locals - I don't see that as a problem, but do quote your luggage.

There are several companies listed with great reviews. I've recently gotten quotes from them and most are very reasonably priced. Of the 12 listed, only 2 would not apply - one of them only has 2 fancy limos (more for weddings, etc) and the last one is a parking service.

For London Hotel to Southampton, we shared a car for 4 with 7 pieces of luggae and 4 totes for about L160 shared @ L80 per couple. A taxi would be cost prohibitive if you run into any traffic as the meter is running.

 

We "should" have booked Advanced Airport Cars from Southampton to Heathrow @ L70 to L100 with a stop at Stonehenge or Windsor Castle. I booked the Princess tour to Windsor Castle and transfer to Heathrow at $278 per couple. It wasn't worth it. Only plus was getting off the ship early.

At Bev's (Nanatravel) suggestion, we used Advanced Airport Cars for our transfer from Southampton to Heathrow via Windsor Castle where the driver waited for 3 hours while we toured the castle. I'm pretty sure that they would pick you up at your hotel for a transfer to Southampton. We were very happy with the service (actually had the owner as our driver).

We used Airport-Pickups London. They did a great job. You just query it on-line put in the postal code where you are staying and what airport you are landing at and it gives you the exact price.

Sorry, I just returned to this thread! We used Smith's for Airports reserved by another couple. We were picked up (2nd. hotel) on time and the ride was very pleasant. Four adults with lots of luggage (4 large, one medium plus at least 4 good size totes) for apx. $160 including tip. We split the fare.

 

Rich, glad that Advanced Airports worked out for you. I should have taken my own advise! We booked the Princess shuttle/tour to Windsor Castle @ $139pp. It was way too expensive and we felt rushed. We did get to Heathrow at 1PM and in plenty of time for our 3PM flight.
