I'm looking forward to my first cruise on the Allure in September as we have a Boardwalk balcony. I've seen lots of good info on CC but I keep reading here about the upgrade fairy and wonder what chance do I have that he/she will visit me?

Most of the "upgrades" I have gotten on the cruiselines I've sailed, I paid for them. I did get one in category upgrade to a higher deck, and midship location at no charge, but from IS to Balcony, or OCV to Balcony, I've paid for, and only after watching the prices drop to a "reasonable" cost.

Don't expect an upgrade - usually they go to people with many many many many many many RCCL cruises.

My wife and I are diamond plus in crown and anchor and have never been upgraded.

 

Pick the exact cabin you want and if you are up graded it's a great bonus.
