I have returned unused camera to Adorama without a problem. They did charge me for their shipping cost.

The only place that I have reurned a camera after using it for a day or two is Costco. The have a very liberal return policy.

Adorama does offer a 30-day returns period - and if you ever need advice or after-sales support with an order from Adorama, I'm only ever an email away: Helen@adorama.com

Helen; nice to have a camera store person here.

Have one question for you. Does Adorama accept PayPal? That is my preferred method of payment for internet purchases.

I know you do via eBay, but do you accept PayPal on your website?

I know that BH does, and when I buy your merchandise, it's usually through Amazon or eBay because I didn't see on your website that you accepted PayPal for website purchases.

Unfortunately, not all of your merchandise is available through Amazon/eBay, so if you did accept PayPal, it would be helpful to me.

Yes indeed - Adorama does accept Pay Pal for items on the main website.

Why do you prefer paypal? I always use a credit card where I get points which I use for airline awards. Additionally, Am Ex doubles the manufacturers warranty. I have also seen posts from those who were not protected by using paypal.

The last question would be whether or not to purchase a warranty. I know they tell you not to waste your money. I had never had a camera break until my D60 stopped working. Luckily it was a gift and my DH purchased a 4 year warranty from Best Buy. They covered the shipping, and the cost to repair would have been greater than what he paid for the protection.

B&H uses Sagemax.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/525472-REG/NEW_SCS2_350_2_Year_SAGEMAX_Protection_Plan.html

They sell a 2 year plan for $44.99 and a 3 year plan for $66.95. I probably won't bother, but does anyone know anything about them? Of course there is a manufacturers one year warranty and I believe my American Express card doubles that. Perhaps I will call AmX to see what they cover. The problem is always accidental damage.

Two things to consider:

1) I think your P7000 comes with an external charger (unlike the S9100!) & therefore you probably don't need to buy an extra charger! (save a few$$)

Maybe awboater can confirm....

2) The Nikon extended warranty looks cheaper & better than the aftermarket...but I'm not sure about any of them! Buyer beware!

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/410971-REG/Nikon_5482_2_Year_Extended_Service_Coverage.html

I think Adorama sells the same Nikon warranty, a little cheaper. The Nikon warranty gives you 3 years coverage for $20 or less.

(But read the fine print....I think the Nikon extended HAS to be registered within 10 days of CAMERA purchase!)

Good luck!:)

edit:.... I don't think that either Sageway nor Nikon extended warranties cover any "accidental" damage, nor abuse, etc,etc... Sageway even says not covered for "normal defects" and "foreign objects in camera"...like sand in lens?

Here is the best deal on earth. I bought it from Amazon for my P7000 - so it is legitimate. They send you a Nikon extended warranty card to fill out.

http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Extended-Service-Coverage-Coolpix/dp/B0017SWH2I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308783855&sr=8-1

Nikon branded Coolpix warranty - 2 yrs extended warranty for $4.99

You are supposed to send it in to Nikon within 10 days for it to be valid - so since it takes a couple of days for you to receive, order it at the same time you order the camera.

For the neck strap, here is what I did:

1. purchased a set of these "adapters". It allows you to use a Tamrac neck strap with the P7000 yet be able to disconnect the strap without having to figure out how to put a bulky neck strap in a case.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004N623WK

Then purchase your favorite Tamrac strap.

I like the mini connectors so well I bought a couple of different straps for my Olympus waterproof compact camera as well:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0039MOG4W

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018MR5HK

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004N622MG

I then used some of the left over parts (I bought two of the first item) to modify my floating strap for the Olympus, so that I could quickly change wrist, neck, and floating strap - or use them (except for the floatie) for the P7000 as well.

http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-202204-STRAP-FLOAT-ORANGE/dp/B0014DURIW/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1308784343&sr=1-3

I tried about a dozen cases before I found any that fit well. I have both a Tamrac 5689 that fits the camera perfectly, and a Think Tank "Modular Pouch". Both fit the P7000 very nicely. Both of them have belt loops, and the Think Tank - while it may not be padded enough for your liking - can be attached to a camera bag.

I also found thata LowePro Apex 60 AW fits very nicely as well, and it also has a belt strap.

All three of the cases also allow the use of a neck strap. You could even buy another set of those Op/Tech adapters and use your camera strap to hold the case, and then when you remove the camera out of the case, transfer the strap to the camera.

For accidental coverage, I have all my camera gear covered by a personal property policy from State Farm (along with my wife's wedding rings).

All total, it's about $40 a year, and covers breakage, loss, etc. I have 4 cameras, and 9 lenses covered.

I never thought about adding the cameras to a personal property policy. I am not sure if they are covered (maybe up to $1,000.00).

American Express doubles the manufacturers warranty.

I have used both Tamerac and Lowepro, and love the Lowepro swingshot 100 that fits my D60. My Fujifilm fit in the zipper pocket, but the p7000 will be too large.

This is the Lowepro 20 AW that is recommended. I think the Apex 60 AW is too large.

Depending on your state, it might not be advantageous for your cameras to be on your homeowner's policy.

In my state - if you make 3 claims on your homeowners policy, it is a mandatory cancellation - state law. Gotta love insurance industry lobbyists; oh wait - it's for our benefit. Yea - right.

At any rate, there is usually a deductible for homeowners policy; $500 or $1,000 is not untypical.

A personal property policy - at least mine - has no deductible, and I won't take a hit against my 3-count on my homeowner's policy should I have a claim.

Just another avenue to think of.

I probably should not get started discussing bags. I have owned literally dozens over the years, and still not sure what is the best (for me).

Fact is, both my equipment and needs have changed over the years, so partly that is why I have gone through so many.

Currently I have 4 different bags - depending on what I am needing to do on a particular outing.

And I have a couple of bags just for cruises.

But that is a whole different topic.

No problem here. I have had more than 3 claims (or will since I need to make a claim tomorrow). If they cancel I would just get a policy elsewhere. My deductible is $250.00. I live in a Condo, unfortunately in the PH and there is always some leak. The condo has to fix the leak but homeowner responsible for interior repair. My policy covers damage caused by "wind driven rain"

The Lowepro Slingshots have a "raincoat", which I have had to use.

Btw, I finally saw and got to hold the p7000 today. Nice camera. The local store has it for $470.00 (includes $50 rebate), but only sold with the Nikon pouch I would not use and Nikon 3 year extended warranty.

Thank you for reminding me. I totally forgot about a neck strap! I don't think the one I use on my Fujifilm will be sufficient. Does Nikon make a strap for the camera? I never looked to see where these would hook.

Maybe I would prefer the same Tamrac case in a larger size?. It is in a small Tamrac case that fits the camera, battery and memory card, and the strap fits inside.

I think this is the one my fujifilm is in. Perhaps they make it larger to fit the p7000.

This is the Tamrac 5689 I sometimes use. You can see how if fits a Canon G12, which is just a tiny bit larger than the P7000 - but for all practical purposes, I would classify them as the same size:

5689-closed_m.jpg5689-open_m.jpg

And my preferred pouch for the P7000; the Think Tank "Modular Pouch". Even though the pouch doesn't have as much padding, it's smaller, and I pack it inside a larger camera bag anyway, so that the small size helps. And I do like the 3 way attachment it has (belt loop, backpack strap loop, and neck strap). It also has it's own little rain cover:

Modular-Pouch-7.jpg

You can see the relative size of the pouch vs the P7000 in this superimposed view.

Modular-Pouch-8.jpg

B&H doesn't sell Think Tank bags, but Adorama and Amazon do.

Tamrac's 5217 is the next size larger in your style pouch. You will have to determine if it is large enough for the P7000. If not, you can go up another size or three. Look for the button on the page that allows you go select the next size smaller or larger pouch.

http://www.tamrac.com/5217.htm

If you refer to Tamrac's "will it fit"? charts, you won't find the P7000 on there (they need to update their charts). But if you look for the Canon G11 (predecessor to the G12), it is essentially the same size as the P7000 - so if it will fit the G11, it should fit the P7000.

Also the LowePro Apex 60 is not as large as it looks. It actually measures 4.25w x 5.5h x 3d at it's deepest. It also has a rain cover.

pouches1.jpg

Here are the three pouches I have. The Tamrac 5689 to the left, the LowePro Apex 60AW in the center, and the Think Tank "Modular Pouch" to the right.

The main difference between the LowePro and the other two is it is a bit thicker. You can put a spare battery in the front compartment, something you would be hard pressed to do with the other two.

pouches2.jpg

There is a divider flap and the P7000 just fits in the rear compartment, and there is room for a spare battery in the front. There is a compartment for SDHC cards as well. The Tamrac has a compartment in the front for SDHC cards, but the Think Tank does not.

The LowePro and Think Tank have rain covers, but the Tamrac does not.

The Tamrac can only be used with a belt; both the LowePro and Think Tank have several attachment options, but they all can use a neck strap. The Tamrac and LowePro come with neck straps for the pouch, and while the Think Tank has loops for one, it does not come with a neck strap.

Anyway, hopefully this gives you some insite as to at least three pouches that will fit the P7000. There are certainly other pouches out there as well.
