Southampton transfer to Heathrow

Anyone know the details around the ship to LHR transfer offered by Celebrity? Eclipse arrives 0530hrs and I need to be at LHR by 1000hrs. Help?

A lot will depend on your day of arrival, bad news if you are talking a weekday as traffic will be heavy.

If there's a later same-day flight, take it.

Forget ship's arrival time, first disembarkation is around 07.00 (haul your own luggage from your cabin), from 07.30 for general disembarkation.

It's very tight with a ship's transfer. Earliest ship's LHR coach usually departs around 08.00.

Quickest possible transfer time by coach is about 80/90 minutes on a saturday or sunday. Add mebbe another 30 minutes mid-week, longer on a monday. So you're pushing your luck a little at the weekend, pushing your luck a lot mid-week.

Certainly mid-week, and probably even weekends, you're better with a 7am unassisted disembarkation and a pre-booked private road transfer costing around £85 to £90 for the vehicle.

For two, I doubt it would cost more than ship's coach transfer. And for four it'd be a lot cheaper.

You'll be ahead of the Southampton-Winchester commuter crawl, mid-week you'll experience some slow traffic at one ot two points closer to Heathrow, but you're likely to be at the airport well before 9am.

Despite that apparent decent window, do still go for early unassisted disembarkation. On the road, one minute early-morning is worth several minutes later in the morning.

These are the transfer companies you'll see most-frequently recommended:

Go for National Express coach, cheap, easy, safe. We did it post Crown Princess, would take it again. Why pay the cruise lines $100, you can get the same trip for £12 on National Express, if over 60, prebook on their site.

Agreed its by far the best value. :)

But I rate it too risky in the OP's timescale. :(

The only possible Nat Express coach departs Southampton coach station 07.45. Just a 5 min taxi ride from the pier, but there'll be others on a tight schedule, and with a delay in unassisted disembarkation, possible line for taxis & general faffing around, there's no guarantee that the OP will make it.

That coach scheduled to arrive Heathrow T5 at 09.40, T4 09.50, central bus station (for T1/2/3) 10.05 followed by a walk to the terminal. And midweek traffic (esp mondays) can play havoc with schedules.

So a big risk of the theory going belly-up at both ends.

Now if the OP could find a flight after mid-day ....................:)
