Great family news from Carnival

This is all over the Carnival boards, but I thought I would spread the happy news here. Carnival is changing their smoking policy!! :D As of Jun 15, 2011- no more smoking in the Piano Bars. As of December 1, 2011- no more smoking in ANY cabins. I am so excited!! This is great news for families. If you hadn't considered Carnival in the past because of smoke issues, it's time to give her another chance. I really hope people will support this new policy so that we can see more and more smoke free areas to enjoy with our families.:)

I'm not sure how this really a family thing..Children are not allowd in the casino, and should'nt be in the P-Bar, all adult venues, So really not sure how this makes it more family friendly.

Families with children who do not want their kids exposed to second hand smoke will no longer have to be concerned about smoke seeping into the hallways from cabins or from connecting cabins. Third hand smoke, the particulate that sticks to clothing, fabric, linens etc can be hazardous, especially to children.

I'm glad to hear this, but I also don't think it's specifically a "family friendly" change. My hubby has asthma, so it's a pretty huge deal to us as well. We've had to leave piano bars and other venues. The new policy will benefit everyone.

Anyone that travels with someone sensitive to smoke (whether its asthma, allergies or other problems) will be thrilled with this new policy. The smoke from the piano bars on most of the ships is not contained in the bar area since the doors are usually open or the floor plan is open. It affects the areas that surround it, so yes it's a family thing. I, for one, am very happy!

Inferior because of the news, or of the cruise line? And would it still be inferior in she had posted that Princess also announced smoking bans in cabins AND balconies, and HAL is banning smoking in cabins? EM

I'm sure you're just joking.. but I posted this here because a lot of us with children would like to keep them away from second hand smoke as much as possible. This affects which cruise lines I book with. If I think a ship is going to be particularly smokey, I'm not going to book my family on it! I'm very pleased with all the companies (Carnival, princess, and HAL) that are taking steps toward having a nicer environment for families to enjoy. Yes, there are others that are not families that are pleased with this news as well.

It wasn't that long ago that RCCL had looser smoking rules (similar to Carnival). They were very wise to make stricter rules and ban smoking in many areas when they did. I'm just glad that there are more options available for a pleasant/ less smokey cruise, now. :)

Princess has also changed their smoking policy, with the difference from Carnival being you are no longer allowed to smoke on balconies either. Nice if you want to sit on your balcony while the kids are napping.
