Hi all!

So I'm looking at the possibility of booking next Jan 2012 on the Elation out of NOLA - we're getting down to the nitty-gritty things such as what cabin to book, what part of the ship to book etc. We have NEVER CRUISED BEFORE. I am unsure whether either mysel or DH will suffer from motion sickness. I am a pretty light sleeper and can't sleep for any length of time without earplugs. Having daylight in our cabin is very important to us.

All that being said, I would like somebody to help me with final cabin selection. The rooms are being snatched up and there's not much in the way of selection (or time).

We are looking at booking an oceanview room on the Main deck. We don't care how far we have to walk to get places.

So - aft, midship or forward? I have read many, many forums and many, many reviews from all different areas of the ship. I am still none the wiser.

I have been eyeing up some of the rear-facing cabins on Main deck - the ones that actually face out the back and you can watch the propeller wash. However, I am very worried about engine noise/vibration in the very aft of the ship. Can anybody help me with that?

I had originally thought forward ship would be nice, but after having read about the motion problems up front now I'm not so sure.

Regarding midship - wll for one it costs a little more, and I am also worried about noise from the public decks above. Also - midship just seems so......so.......so nondescript!??

HELP!!! :(

The lower you are and the more mid-ship you are the less motion you will feel. We like being in the aft cabins. The cabins facing aft usually have a deeper window sill. Large enough to sit in but akward to get to.

Some of the aft cabins are HC, please book those only if you need to.

Main Deck cabins are surrounded by other cabins. The Empress deck cabins are under the public areas.

The good thing about the aft cabins is the first elevator/staircase leads directly to the Lido. The aft cabins are very quiet. Less people walking past your cabin to get to their's.

The bad thing is that you will feel the azipods and at times they can cavitate. If you like a vibrating bed then you will love the cavitation, lol. It is not constant but you need to know about it.

Couple other things to know----The MDRs on the Elation are the Imagination and the Inspiration. The names are too similar and many get confused.

If you are assigned to the aft MDR it is easier to wait near the bar upstairs from the dining room for it to open. The staircase is glass so you will see everyone going in. The waiting area for this dining room is tiny. Think sardines.

Have a great time. We really like the Elation.

I like aft by the elevator .. all the way aft you will have a lot of vibration, so its better not to be too far aft, especially on the bottom 2 decks.

When my Wife and I booked a cabin aft facing we were very worried, however there was no need to be as it was smooth and no one walked passed the door. The sea was a little noisy at first but after a we while you never noticed it. GO for it and enjoy. Kind Regards Mick

My DH and I have booked the aft cabins on the Elation before and we LOVED it! Like you mention, we got to sit in the window and watch the wake as we left ports and just very relaxing. We would do it again in a heartbeat.

I tend to get motion sickness at the drop of a hat, but have never had trouble with an aft cabin. We've been on upper decks and we've been on lower decks and neither one of us tends to notice much motion.

If you want to sleep in late however, I would caution you to use earplugs as the ropes going out in the morning are a bit noisy. I wore earplugs and never woke but my DH noticed the noise. It's not LOUD, but you can hear it if you're not wearing plugs.

Book it! You're gonna love it!!! :D

I had a aft facing main deck on Triumph and it was awful.. not even a full sized OV. The vibration was terrible.

You would think I learned my lesson, but Nooooooooooo, I had a cabin assigned that was the last inside on the bottom deck. I swear it was next to the engine the way things thumped and bumped agsinst our back wall and ceiling.. beyond anything I would pay full price for.

Let me put it this way .. the noises and vibrations were so loud in this cabin it is usually used for storage. You had to double the volumn on the tv to hear it.

Hmmm - you're worrying me. :(

Although I do note from research that the Triumph is not equipped with the Azipod propulsion system. Do you think that perhaps magnified your engine vibration misery? I have heard that on azipod ships the noise/vibration is almost zero - even in aft. Do any others agree with this statement?

......because if not, now I'm getting forced into the boring mid-ship, LOL.

We've booked aft cabins, and I mean the back-end of the ship aft, and we've loved it every time.

The only way you're gonna know is if you try it once...

The only time an aft cabin was a bad experience was on the Destiny, but that cruise ended early because of engine problems. And in that case, the ENTIRE ship vibrated and rocked and made horrible noises.

Book it!!!! You're gonna LOVE it!!!

We were in M245 on Elation in February. This was fairly near the aft elevators and proved to be very convenient. The aft elevator was the closest to the aft dining room where "sit-down" breakfast and lunch were served and a direct shot to the inside of the buffet restaurant (where the 24-hour coffee is!). Also, by going up to the Promenade you can get to most anything else on the ship (Casino, Serenity Deck, Forward Dining Room where My Time Dining seating is, etc). This location was great and we have asked for similar locations on successive cruises on Carnival. Also, doesn't qualify as "boring mid-ship" :D

Although we weren't all the way aft, I can claim no noise or vibrations from the engines.

I do think Triumph has a extra bad vibration like no other ship Iv been on. I admit I think its Triumph related.

iv been aft before .. just dont like the lower two decks .. all the way aft...just aft of the aft elevators, even half way to the back, just a vibration in the floor you can live with.

Even RCL ship that I was at least 4 cabins from the very last cabin on the bottom deck, I noticed it was like a vibrating bed a lot of the time. I had a L shaped cabin, you can find them on conquest deck plans.. I had someone visit me who said they didnt know if the price was worth having that vibration. All ships have some vibration.

But its not bad if you are not the very last cabin on the bottom deck.

I agree, near the aft elevator is very convenient.. just not the very last cabin aft. .. or even the last few, on the bottom 2 decks... other than that, I like aft myself.

I was aft R187 on Elation last time.. about half way back.. great..

  • 4 years later...

On some of the deck plans the two middle Aft cabins look like they are slightly larger than the outer cabins.

Is this true because the ship curves out and makes the room slightly larger or are the all the same size?
