Rivera Deck cabins - muster station.

Can anyone tell me where we will have to go for the lifeboat drill - we are in R326 on Rivera Deck on the SEA PRINCESS- I'm thinking it might be at the Horizon Court - I neither of us can use the stairs much more than one floor - so this is a concern for me.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I don't know the answer to your question but I have trouble walking and this is what I do. The muster station is listed on the back of the cabin door. About 45 minutes before the time of muster I take the elevator to the muster station and take a seat. I have always had a station in a lounge, the casino, or the theater (I've never been on a ship that used the horizon court as a muster station.) so I am there in plenty of time. Then after the muster is finished I wait for about 15 or so minutes which lets the elevators clear out and then I leave.

What in the world would you do should there be a real emergency?

Muster is always held on Promenade deck with access to the life boats. Which lounge will depend on the location of your cabin. As KatieDale says, get to your assigned Muster station early and relax. It won't be in the buffet.

Good advise - I'll do that - go early. As to what I would do in a real emergency, I honestly don't know - I can go down the steps albeit very slowly but coming back up is a whole different story - I guess there would be a bunch of us in the same prediciment, based on how many walkers and wheelchairs there are in use. We are a trusting lot, aren't we???

At every muster drill, I've heard it said that passengers needing extra assistance should contact the Passenger Services Desk (I think) to let them know, and that they have people designated to do that. I have the impression that this should be done on embarkation day, not at the time of a real emergency. Perhaps someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this as I've never listened real closely to that part of the drill.

No, you do not wear your life vest to the muster drill- you carry it. At the end of the muster drill they have the passengers put them on to demonstrate they can do it, and then take them off to be carried back to the staterooms.

Ok... still not great because you have go to the stateroom to get vest and then back to room to store... RCCL and X's way is sooo easy... just show up at the designated area (emptyhanded) and that's it:p

do you still have to wear your life jackets? Its been a while since we've been on Princess... and rccl stopped a couple of yrs a go
You never had to wear your life jacket on Princess and that hasn't changed. However, you do need to bring it with you and at the end of Muster, you will be instructed to put it on to make sure you know how. It always astonishes me how many people have trouble, even after a clear demonstration so I guess I prefer the Princess method vs. X. Whatever you do, don't blow the whistle as you don't know whose mouth it's been in last. Again, it astonishes me how many people try this. Ugh!

Unfortunatly, it may be easy, but most people (at least on RCCL) can not see past the people in front of them in order to actually see the demonstration and 100% of the people do not try it themselves. In a real emergency, I suspect 90% of the passengers on RCCL will not know how to properly put on the life jacket.

From a RCCL cruise I was on last year:

"The muster drill required everyone to be outside at the lifeboat station assigned to you and listed on the cruise card. There was no need to bring the life vest to the muster. Use of the vest was demonstrated by a crew member at each lifeboat. No mention was made of what needed to be done if it became necessary to walk/jump into the water. Everyone lined up in rows on the deck with their backs to the wall. Most people could not see over/through the people in front of them to actually see the demonstration by the crew member putting on the vest. Before the demo they did a roll call with everyone's name that was assigned to that lifeboat. They made note of all passengers who were not there, but I do not know what they did with that list."
