bostonlass Posted April 25, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2004 We are booked for the Century in October for our honeymoon. My hubby-to-be is in his early 40's and I am in my late 30's. We are both very down to earth people and while we like to occasionally dress up for dinner, we'd rather not have to dress up the majority of the time. We are very easy going people and get along with anyone and would probably love to hook up with couples who are in our general age group. From all that I've read, the Century requires you to wear formal attire after 6pm throughout the ship on formal nights and you are not allowed to wear shorts to either breakfast or lunch. I just came from the Disney Wonder and although there was a formal night, it was only for the restaurant and lunch and breakfast could be casual. That being said, I'd rather not do Disney for our honeymoon (although I thought it was just great) due to the amount of kids on board. Any thoughts? Rare Texed Posted April 25, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 25, 2004 Shorts are fine at breakfast and lunch. Shorts are not allowed at the evening meal. You should be in formal clothing all evening on formal nights. But, you can opt to go to the alternative dinner that is casual. The Century is a great ship, and I believe you should enjoy it very much. Rare Lois R Posted April 26, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2004 Hi, the Century is wonderful...and you can wear shorts for breakfast and lunch in the dining room. I have sailed her twice in the last 11 months and will go back next year too . No better ship...(In My opinion ) Next up...HORIZON Sept 18th to Bermuda! nealberk Posted April 26, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 26, 2004 The Century definitely has a following - as one of the other threads will definitely attest to. From what you say, you will probably enjoy the ship. Formal night is not as stiffling as you seem to think and many people relax a little after dinner. brigittetom Posted April 26, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 26, 2004 Actually, we saw quite a few people, mostly men change into shorts after dinner to sit in the casino on informal and formal nights. It certainly didn't have any effect on our evening but I did notice. Bottem line after all is said and done, we all get off the ship and hopefully most of us had a great cruise. superjerryw Posted April 26, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 26, 2004 Celebrity tries to offer more of an adult experience and this includes more dressing up and more formality in general. As an example, if you want to go to the casual dining venue at dinner time you need a reservation. On other cruise lines if you want to go to the dinner buffet you just go. The Century is a great ship and we had a great time on the Century a few years ago. That being said, if you want a more casual environment you might prefer Royal Caribbean. tbelian Posted April 26, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 26, 2004 My advice: Don't worry, GO CRUISING! Enjoy your honeymoon on The Century. That was my 'first' (also duing our honeymoon), and we have gone back several times. You will enjoy. Relax, have a great cruise. Congratulations. But in the interest of being fair I will sail Century in Feb just to make sure my research and opinion are accurate. Seriously...not everyone will enjoy Celebrity, but it would seem that you are the picture perfect candidate for this line. You could not make a better choice that Century. Kathleen P. Posted April 26, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 26, 2004 You can dine in the Sky Bar(I think that's the name) on deck 12. You do not have ot dress up and the same food is served there as is in the main dining room. This is a good choice if you don't want buffet style dining. The tables are set with linens and you are served by a waiter. It is a lovely setting - large windows and great views! I think there is a $2 pp charge. Rare tofubeast Posted April 26, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 26, 2004 I was on the century about a year ago. Had the time of my life. I have sailed on RCCL and I would say the level of formality in the evenings and during the day was about the same. During the day you can wear shorts etc... At night, just stick with the dress code. People arent wearing gala dresses on informal night! It really is not too stressful. You will have a blast!!
