What the heck? Note: Electronic cigarettes are only allowed in smoking areas????

Gary,

Any chance you can modify your default font to a larger size? I've mostly given up on reading your posts unless my glasses are nearby, and I suspect others have the same problem.

Thanks. :)

I'll second that. :)

Saw this at bottom of FAQs on Carnival's website:

Note: Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes are only allowed in the designated smoking areas

Is Carnival nuts? There's finally a way to appease the non-smokers with e-cig use and now the brass at Carnival want to relegate the e-cig users back to the smoking areas? I'm not sure how they dare make such a move as states haven't even banned them from non-smoking areas (although a few have tried).

Since I was a 2 1/2 pack a day smoker who hasn't had a real cig in over 2 years I sure don't want to have to sit in a smoking section to use my e-cig

That's right up there with making a cigar bar non smoking....

Seriously....who makes these dumb a55 decisions????

I tend to avoid discussions like this but... I agree with the poster who said that SOME fanatical non-smokers are the reason for this ban. :D

Why can't it be just plain old ignorance on CCL's part...or bad decision making on their part???

Without reading all of the previous posts, I have to say that I don't think it has anything to do with health issues, it's a matter of enforcement. Non-smokers would be complaining about the "smokers" continually and Carnival staff would have to check out the situation to verify that it wasn't an actual cigarette being smoked. Over and over again possibly.

While I applaud those who have made the switch (thanks from us non-smokers! :)), I can understand the difficulties this could pose for the cruiseline.

OR that... It makes sense to me.

I'll second that.

Me too. I was just going to post something to Gary about it as well :)

I enjoy reading his posts....have to strain my old eyes to do so however

. Some organized e-cigg groups recommend that users only vape in smoking areas anyway.

I find that kinda sad...You have someone making a better choice for themselves, with no second hand smoke or odor to harm or offend anyone around them and they still have to be isolated in a smoking area breathing in the smoke that they no longer want to expose themselves to???

That really sucks...jmho.

You were the rude one, sorry :(

No I wasn't rude....I didn't make personal attacks

as for e-cigs...many non smokers have been more than willing to accept them....since they don't stink. I don't plan to be around them much and I am not going to pretend to be concerned about the health risks.

I think people who vape where smoking is prohibited are either trying to show off or just get a kick out of bending the rules. If they still used real cigarettes they would use willpower and not light up. Why not control your urge and refrain from sucking on the plastic in a no-smoking area as well?

My guess is that they will make the former cigar bars Red Frog Pubs...adding a new revenue source.

Probably a smart decision....the majority of people don't smoke, or are not so addicted that they require lots of indoor space to smoke in. I am sure most smokers from California, Florida etc and many other states are very used to going outside to indulge.

I do think they should sell their own brand of e-cigs...new revenue source. They should probably also let people vape in the cabins. I think it is wonderful that the cabins will be smoke free starting dec 1. I think the Fantasy ships will eventually be a sweet spot for smokers.....with only about 60 balconies on Imagination and only the disco and casino to smoke inside.....my guess is the short cruisers will move over to my least favorite ship...the Destiny;

Yippee.....and as of NOW no more smoking in the piano bar...wonderful

My guess....and hey my predictions have been right on....is that the Cigar bars will soon all be "red frog pubs"

E-cig fluids come in many NICOTINE STENGTHS. Many "vapors" use this to get competely off nicotine by gradually reducing the strength of the nicotine until they are down to buying e-fluids with ZERO NICOTINE in them, thus quitting the nicotine addictive part of their habit.

Many still vape because they like the many flavors they've enjoyed. Just no nicotine in them. :) The DO-GOODERS say, you've just replaced one addiction with another and they're absolutely right, but the replacement is a harmless addiction. Everybody benefits except the tobacco companies and those governments (state and federal) that collect huge tax levies for tobacco. :D

Font is too small. Can you please enlarge it?

That kinda makes sense. If not enough people were in the cigar bars purchasing drinks, the Pub makes more financial sense.

As a person who enjoys vaping occasionally, I don't have a problem with the policy. Some organized e-cigg groups recommend that users only vape in smoking areas anyway.

I find it hard to believe that any worthwhile e-cig group advocates e-cig use only in "smoking" areas.

From the medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com the definition of smoking "Smoking is the inhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco encased in cigarettes, pipes, and cigars."

Since there is nothing burning in an e-cig, how can this be classified as smoking???? Did you think people were smoking when they were prescribed a Nicatrol inhaler by their doctors???

I'm thinking people will use e-cigs in their cabins, even after the smoking ban in cabins. After all, who's gonna know?

For me, the cabin isn't an issue since I'd use my e-cig there anyway. My issue is with the casino that they're now making 75% non-smoking. Since we spend 6-8 hours in there every day I don't want to be forced into the small smoking section to gamble (and lose)

OOPS....I should have said that the Fantasy Class will be sweet for NON smokers (ie, Imagination only has 60 balconies...and no "jazz" club so less places to smoke)...I think smokers who want a short cruise will move to the Destiny (which didn't follow the former/more lax/old rules anyhow)

I do find it funny that the "vapers" who use e-cigs don't want to be around the stench and smell and eye watering annoyance of "analog" smokers either

I still think Carnival should market their own red/white blue e-cigs that clearly do NOT look like a "real" cig and that might be a good solution

The Red Frog Pubs will be a money maker in the former wasted cigar bar space

times change :)

I am glad that these e cig smokers now realize how bad the smoke does bother people.......that is a good thing. It beats hearing it's all in our heads lol!

If it helps them get back their sense of taste and smell that is awesome!

As far as controlling where on the ship.......that is going to be a tough one for the cruiselines to figure out. If people are claiming they have been doing this very discreetly on the ships....then just continue to do so and if you are confronted then do as you are doing here....explain the technique....let's be fair though......it will cause confusion and that is something the cruiselines probably want to avoid......

Don't you think this is a problem with CCL though...avoiding confrontation??

God forbid they have to explain to one of the idiot type of non smokers that the e-cigs are allowed...just like they don't want to tell parents to get their diapered toddlers out of the pools & hot tubs or stop people from hogging chairs for 4 hours.

No cojones.

That was not the confusion I was talking about......I was thinking more on the line they look like real cigs to everybody not just non smokers.......

Well since no one told me anything. go here. Lots of info. Including what the fda is doing, what some of the states are doing and just everything you need to know about an e cig. e-cigarette-forum dot com. Leave the hyphens in. Maybe someone can post that site to JH. Ill bet there a few big wigs at Carnival that could use an e-cig. That could do a lot for all of us who use one.

But I would think that it would only be non smokers (of the insane variety) that would make a stink about it...excuse the pun :p..hence CCL wants to avoid having to deal with them.

LOL! Maybe at a distance it looks real so a smoker might take that as an ok to smoke there? Maybe at a distance it looks real to an employee who might waste his time going over to tell them they are in the wrong area? Granted that these are all assumptions but so is saying that it would cause a stink to just non smokers of the insane variety or sane for that matter.......it will be interesting to see how other cruiselines handle it.....

Actually I only had only one ship employee tell me I couldn't smoke on the non-smoking side. I just held out my e-cig to show him and he said "no problem" and walked away. How is that a big deal?...especially since he was walking by anyway???
