For those with small children - bermuda and taxis

Did anyone take taxis with young children or did you only take the buses and ferries? We are traveling with family who want to take taxis and I'm nervous b.c we won't have car seats with us - but I don't relish standing in long waits for the buses and the ferries and I'm reading that they really cut back recently.
