We have not sailed with X since the mid-90's. HAL permits cruisers to bring wine, champagne, and water onboard (but not soft drinks or beer), for no charge if consumed in your cabin (corkage fee applies if you want your own in the dinig rooms). Does anyone know X's policy?

You are permitted to bring 2 bottles of wine per cabin onboard. A corkage fee of $25 per bottle applies if the wine is served in a public area.

 

You are permitted to bring water and sodas onboard. Simply slap a luggage tag on each box/flat and leave it with the porters when you drop off your luggage.

 

Beer and hard liquor cannot be brought onboard.

Does that mean that at Rome we can bring on board 6 bottles of water in a carrier and at every other stop we can bring on as much bottled water as we want in a carrier bag? If so, then I am glad that we have just cancelled out drinks package !

Well, as they are embarking in Rome, they would still have to go somewhere and buy their big bottles, or cases, of water and somehow get them to the ship on their own, I guess. :)

Just fyi that HAL allows unlimited Cola/soft drinks, and I believe Celebrity does as well.

Are You Legal?

Celebrity Cruises' minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages is 21 years of age. However, on cruises departing from a country where legal drinking ages are lower than 21 (typically European and South American countries), a parent sailing with a child between the ages of 18 and 20 may sign a waiver allowing for the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

 

Bringing Booze Onboard

Bringing liquor onboard at embarkation: No alcoholic beverages may be brought onboard for consumption with the exception of wine. If you're caught with liquor, it'll be confiscated and returned at the end of the cruise.

 

Bringing wine or Champagne onboard: Passengers may bring two bottles of wine per stateroom, but when consumed in any shipboard restaurant, bar or dining venue, there's a corkage fee of $25 per bottle. Wine purchased from the selection of bon voyage gifts are not subject to a corkage fee.

 

Purchasing liquor in port: Alcoholic beverages purchased ashore will be held until the end of the cruise.

 

Purchasing liquor in ships' duty-free shop: Onboard purchases from the gift shop of any bottle of liquor will be held until the last night of the cruise.

Specialty Bars

Celebrity's new Solstice-class of ships, which includes Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Equinox and the not-yet-debuted Celebrity Eclipse, has a couple of specialty bar venues onboard. Cellar Masters offers a daily wine tasting in the afternoon or evening, featuring a different wine region each day and including in-depth discussions with knowledgeable sommeliers. And vodka and caviar tastings take place in Crush, where the centerpiece is a table filled with shaved ice in the center. Finally, the ships tout Martini bars as well.
