Monarch of the Seas - Port or Starboard?

Recommended Posts

PA,

In LA, the Monarch is usually docked port(left) side to the pier. Backs out towards the big bridge and leaves. In Ensenada, it usually docks starboard(right) side to the dock. I would think it's possible in Ensenada that could change based on weather, waves, etc - since I've seen the Carnival ship docked on either side there.

In Ensenada, on the dock side, you'll see the pier and part of the city, the Carnival Paradise, and the hills. On the other side, you see more of the "working" harbor....boats loading and unloading farm animals and stuff. You'll also see a lot of little boat traffic with lots of people going to look at the cruise ship.

For the day at sea, if you have a balcony, you'll get more sun on the port side.

I've only done the 3 day on the Monarch, so I can't say about San Diego and Catalina.

I've done that itinerary 5 times on the Monarch and several more on the Viking Serenade. The only port I would say it would make a difference would be in San Diego. Every time I've been there the ship was starboard to the pier and on the lower decks your view of anything would be blocked on that side. I guess that would be reason to book the port side.

We were starboard side to the pier at San Diego and Ensenada. Casino view from the starboard side in Catalina. We were on the 4 day. San Diego view from starboard was of the Midway (aircraft carrier?). Ensenada view from starboard is of the pier shops and town.

We actually picked port side for July, just to see what the other side is like. :)

What side of the pool deck should you be on when you leave LA?

Starboard...the restaurants say "Bon Voyage" over the PA's and cheer for you as you pass...all the fun stuff is on Starboard side leaving LA. (San Pedro)
