If I ran RCI I would change...

How about a childless cruise (boy, am I going to get blasted for this one). No offense to families, but some of us just like to relax and enjoy our time and not have to worry about screaming children, children running around, children taking over elevators.

Again, these are my opinions, and I am entitled to them. Should you choose to blast me, may the upgrade fairy never pay you a visit!

........isn't that why Holland America sails the seven seas?.....;):D:D

Some great ideas here..........too bad that Cruise Critic makes up about 1 to 5% of the total passengers.

Cold refrigerators is close to the top of my list. On a cruise or two before last, we had the RS on the Mariner, and because they could not give us a cold refrigerator.......they moved a 2nd one in and plugged it in by the dining area. One pays that kind of money......and there is the service!

As much as we have cruised Royal Caribbean in the past, and the fact that we are looking forward to cruising with them again next year, we have nothing more going with them this year.

We have tried NCL, HAL, Princess, MSC and others, and each one has it's good and bad points.

The liquor policy onboard stinks, and if crew members can have alcohol in their cabins.........so can we!

So....starting with the head of the corporate office......find someone that has fiscal responsibility, but is customer oriented. The present CEO of Royal Caribbean.....Mr. Goldstein..........needs to go. I have never met a person so anti passenger, and pro the almighty dollar........and, there will come a time that The Chairman of the board will regret that he put Mr. Goldstein in such a high place.

There are some wonderful Vice Presidents, that would make a great CEO.

Until that happens, everything that is talked about here.......won't happen! And, that is one of the reasons that I have a problem with giving my money to a company that I feel is mismanaged.

Well, that is pretty harsh language......but I can back everything that I have said.;)

If I were KING of the RCI WORLD, I would:

Leave the other three Radiance Class Ships alone - (don't ruin what we love about them like they did the Radiance so they can make more on-board profit)

Take the Jewel, Brilliance, and Serenade, and set them up for LONGER iteneraries like HAL has done with some of its older but greatest ships.

Go ahead and charge a fare for the cruise that will make a profit -- WE'LL PAY IT!!;)

Iteneraries like:

15 day Panama - east and west from San Diego to Ft. Lauderdale & back

16 day Circle Hawaii leaving out of San Diego or Las Angeles

14 day "Ultimate Caribbian Cruise" that would circle the Caribbean and make all the east and west stops.

These are just a few.

Just my 2 cents....

I would like to be greeted with a glass of champagne when I first come on board!!! A few special touches would be nice. For instance, on the Alaska cruise, they had someone walking around selling hot chocolate while we watching the glacier. Wouldn't it be nice, if they were handing this out..... They had it for free at the drink station anyway. A little added touch to make us feel special.

Yep. To be fair' date=' the pricing of the JS is typically closer to standard balcony cabins than to GS+, so I can understand why they don't want to "give away the farm," so to speak ... but in that case, just call them extra-super-deluxe balcony cabins. Call a suite a suite. ;)

[/font']

I totally agree, JS should be changed to balcony plus, seems to cause a lot of confusion with past cruisers on board who were promised the suite benefits by the TA and not received them...

Different itineraries from Southampton UK, (not just Canaries and Mediterranean)...:D

Supply nice toiletries and that ever so popular chocolate on the pillow ...

Better ventilation in the night club from smoking...:D

Set up bar in the GS would be nice and wouldn't mind paying little extra per bottle...:D

still thinking of more... Mark

I would alter some of the grand suites, take out the bath and replace with a large shower cubicle so that people with mobility problems can have a choice. At the moment we love the grand suites but my Mother struggles with climbing in and out of the bath for a shower. We can't afford the upgrade to an owners suite to get the shower cubicle but as my Mother likes to use the cabin we want more space than a standard balcony cabin - we also love to use the CL. Whilst she is still able to walk around we would not dream of attempting to book a disabled cabin as there are people with greater need than her.

Hi Anne

hope you and Lilly are keeping well... still missing that concierge lounge of an evening with you both there, be great to cruise with you both again soon....

Hi Mark and Dave,

would love to cruise again soon but business very poor at the moment. Miss the naughty table in the CL:D.

I agree with the comment re Southampton. Would love to see some different itineries for IOS. It was so much easier to drive down than have to fly. Mum + suitcases + airport = hardwork!! Mum's having problems with one of her hip replacements so there is no way now that she can climb into a bath. Hopefully we will see the Doctor next week - it may be she needs part replacing again -then there will no keeping up with her.

Would love COLD FRIDGES in the cabin - the ones in there do appear to be a waste of space although we have never had any problems with getting it emptied. Last time the stewardess did say they weren't meant to do it because they are controlled by the bar area and not housekeeping but she put all of the stuff in carrier bags and we stored it in the cupboard.

agreed.

I would modify this Royal Advantage program. Hate what might be happening to the Radiance class ships. Don't get me wrong, they could all us a bit of a face lift but not reconstructive surgery!!!;)

When booking a suite my favorite perk was the short walk down the hall for morning coffee and snack to enjoy on my quiet balcony. Moving the lounge upstairs is not appealing to me. But that's just me!!

I would stop the discrimination of European customers. Why do US and Canadian military, active and retired, receive discounts from RCCL? Their colleagues from Europe, i.e. UK, Germany etc, who serve in AFG side by side with the US risk their lives as well for our societies. They do not get any discounts at all. Shame on RCCL for treating customers so different.

Too right !!!

Also stop discrimination against European customers in that we can get OBC for price drops etc. Why would I book early and risk seeing the price drop?

And what about lowering the Air Con in public places. You need 3 layers when you go to the shows. It is just a waste of fuel.

Allow a bottle of wine to be brought on to be enjoyed on your balcony.

You can bring two bottles of wine per stateroom on Celebrity. Funny how the same company has two sets of rules on something seemingly so trivial.:)

YES! Great suggestion.

Currently we book handicap balcony due to wife's wheelchair use. Mostly for the wider door and space to turn chair around but also for the flip down seat in the shower. Most ships have two HC JS but that's as far as the suites go. Not even real suite benefits so really just more space and the HC Balcony serves just fine for that. But a tub free GS might be nice splurge. With my assistance she can deal with everything else in a non-HC friendly GS, except the tub.

If I ran RCI, I would lobby my congressional delegation to support H.R.2060 filed by a Texas congressman which would allow a "foreign-flagged cruise ship on a voyage of more than 24 hours to operate cruises to or from U.S.ports without including foreign ports in the itinerary." :) This would seem to fulfill the wishes of many posters who would like to book such cruises if they were available.

For some unknown reason, CLIA has indicated that it is "neutral" about the bill.

I would not include Guadaloupe on BOTH the itineraries for the southern Caribbean on the radiance class ship. Once Serenade leaves San Juan, Brilliance will no longer include Dominica, but with visit Guadaloupe on BOTH itineraries. I understand this is designed to give European travelers a more Euro-friendly departure port, but it's common for people to take B2Bs on this ship, which doubles up a port that isn't particularly popular. OK, this is a personal gripe because I really LOVE Dominica, but the OP didn't say it couldn't be personal!:p

I would NOT try to make all the ships fit the same mold. The upcoming dry docks seem to be designed to Oasis-ify the fleet. Part of what makes Royal Caribbean special is that its different classes have something for everyone. If you look over these boards, it quickly becomes clear how incredibly popular the Radiance class ships are. Making those ships more commercial and less elegant by adding things like outdoor movies by the pool detracts from their appeal.

I would add outdoor seating at the Windjammer on every ship that could possibly accommodate it. The lack of outdoor breakfast seating was a pet peeve of mine when I switched to RCL from another cruise line, until I found the Radiance class ships. It would be nice if this option was also available on other classes.

I agree with the wine bottle suggestion. It would be nice to make it the same as Celebrity by allowing passengers to carry on one or two bottles for use in the room. In the scheme of things, that's not huge to me. The additional cost to purchase on-board bottles is pretty negligible when viewed as part of the total cruise cost.

I've always liked the idea of smoking and non-smoking sides of the ship for balcony cabins. I've never booked a balcony, partly because I worry the extra cost could be wasted if I'm next to a balcony of heavy smokers. I'd never use my balcony under those conditions. People always insist this could never work, but hotels have maintained smoking and non-smoking rooms for decades. Why not ships?

Don't know how easy this would be but I would like them to change ships from port to port more often (size permitting of course). So even if I had to re-visit the same old dag gone ports it would be a new experience if I could at least sail a different ship every couple of years.

I would allow a couple of bottles of wine to be taken on board. People who abuse it should be cutoff, but let the rest of us enjoy a glass of wine on our balcony.

I would allow people in the casino to get chips on their shipboard credit without charging them 3%. I can run up to the purser's desk and get cash.

I would enforce policies already in place such as smoking, dress codes, saving chairs, etc.

I would train the photographers to leave people alone who really don't want their picture taken with the pirate or animal of the day.

Update some of the activities. Those of us who have been cruising for several years really need something new other than the Newly/no so newly wed game. Quest is ok for some but have an alternate activity for those of us who have seen it over and over. We were on some ship that had many activities going. RCL not so much. Perhaps some late night entertainment too for the night owls would be nice. I hadn't cruised Carnival for a long time but when we did a couple of years ago they had all kind of activities to meet many different interests. Some days we couldn't fit it all in.

Big R, they used to let people get cash without 3% surcharge. Unfortunately, some were doing it solely to run up their Sea Pass account, pay it off with their RCI credit card, get double points because they paid for product with their RCI card. They would then put the cash back in their bank accounts when they returned home. And, to make matters worse, they bragged about doing so on Cruise Critic. It's another example of some people ruining something for the "good guys".

The different sets of rules may have something to do with the fact that they are marketing to different types of passengers on Azamara, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean, and have tailored their policies to fit the demographic that is each line's primary market. There is obviously some overlap but the primary audience for each line is noticeably different and require different treatment.:)

I would also add the pre-cruise escorted Paris and London tour to the Jewel's westbound transatlantics. We always fly to London a few days prior to our sailing date and this tour should prove as popular with the TA cruisers as it is with those who are doing the 12 night Scandinavia and Russia cruises. :)
