need2travel Posted July 30, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2011 Hello all. We've done back2backs before, so are aware of the protocol for getting our new cards, etc. This time, we're having to change cabins and I'm aware that we need to pack our small items and the steward will bring a rack for us for transfer. My questions is this: we'd like to leave the ship as soon as it clears for an excursion as we want to spend as much time in port as possible. Can we do so if our new cabin isn't yet ready? Do we leave all our things with the steward until we return? Would he put it in a safe area for us? What should be expect, please. Thank you for your help. paul929207 Posted July 30, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2011 Personally, I would want to be there to make sure everything is moved to the new room.
WeBeGone Posted July 30, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2011 When we moved cabins, our cabin steward was at our door at 9, we moved into an uncleaned cabin, met the new steward, and were off the ship by 9:30.
BridgeMates Posted July 30, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2011 On a couple of occasions, we've talked to the other cabin steward in advance and worked out a time to move. If you want to do it early, check out the other cabin and if they're out, you can move right away. Usually everyone has to clear their cabin by 0800. Ask your steward to have them bring the clothes rack when you're ready. All we pack are our small, drawer and toilet articles. It's really easy. caribill Posted July 31, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 31, 2011 When we have done it, we never worried about when we could do the move. o We packed everything that was in drawers and on shelves and in the bathroom into our suitcases (do not forget to empty the safe). o The cabin steward took care of moving the suitcases and hanging clothes to the new cabin. o When we returned to the ship, we just went to the new cabin and it was all there waiting for us. You can get off the ship that morning as soon as it is cleared for disembarkation. If this is a USA port, you do not fill out the customs and immigration form as you are an in-transit passenger and are not bringing stuff into the country. dcruisers Posted July 31, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 31, 2011 We are considering a b2b for winter....why can't you keep the same room? Wouldn't that be easier even for the staff? or does everyone who is on a b2b have to switch rooms? Thanks@

We will need to change cabins for next Spring's cruise on the Emerald because we want a mini for the TA but only need a balcony cabin for the port intensive Baltic cruise and we will save money. If no acceptable cabin is available, then you will have to change. This is why many of us book our b2b's early

paul929207 Posted August 1, 2011 #11 Share Posted August 1, 2011 It is easyer staying in the same cabin Certainly, staying in the same cabin is easier, but changing is not the end of the world.
JerseyGuys Posted August 1, 2011 #12 Share Posted August 1, 2011 when I've done back to back the room stewart moved everything for us, they moved the drawers filled and swapped them out for the empty drawers and then simply moved the hanging cloths. We left the bot in San Juan early and came back and everything was moved. We were comfortable doing this because it was our room stewart from the first cruise who offered to make the move for us and he was wonderful !! Its actually quite easy.. GrandmaHofmann Posted August 1, 2011 #13 Share Posted August 1, 2011 We were on back-to-back Mediterranean cruises in Feb 2010. We switched from a mini-suite to the owner's suite for the second voyage. They collected all our luggage and kept it somewhere. We didn't keep anything other than reading materials. We did not have to leave the ship, and we didn't, as it was Sunday in Barcelona and on Sunday morning, it is shut up tight. Plus, we'd spent about a week there already. We could not get into our suite til about noon.
cruiser boo Posted August 1, 2011 #14 Share Posted August 1, 2011 We have done many B 2 B's. We have had the same cabin many times & other times we switched because we went from a balcony on Port to a balcony Starboard to have a different view. A little hassle in moving but we enjoyed the change. I would switch cabins again just to make the comparison.

Well, that would be the most efficient way to move wouldn't it? I hope our steward is willing to do this for us. Of course, a tip would be appreciated. ;)
