Cider on-board grand princess

STEPHEN LARKIN

Recommended Posts

I am a cider drinker and can tell you Princess ships only carry the Strongbow cans. From memory around $7 per large can.

The Americans are not big cider drinkers. I would like to see some Magners or even Scrumpy Jack on board!

Sorry to sound so naive, but what exactly is cider? In the US what we call cider is some kind apple juice drink.. Is the cider you guys are refering to an Ale of somekind ?

Just curious, and thanks

Hard (i.e. alcohol) cider is made from apples. Popular in parts of Europe and Canada. Have yet to see it on any of my travels in the USA, at least in the typical liquor store.

Had a few cans of Strongbow (English cider) on my last cruise. They have it but don't really promote it at all. Better in draft from a pub in England.

Cider information for our American cousins...

Cider is a european drink made from apples and is usually a lot stronger than beer or lager. I am told Princess sell Strongbow cider on-board, this is a medium strength English cider and is just average.

I am from Ireland and we produce another medium strength cider called Magners , it is much better .

Finally if you really want the best cider available from the UK, ask for HENNYS ( strong and tangy ) or ASPELLS ( The champagne of ciders )

HERE ENDETH THE LESSON.

Sorry Stephen,. Im afraid its only strongbow in cans with Princess. Im like you and much prefer Magners, but theres no chance of ever getting that on the ship.

If I was you I would buy some at each port and bring it on board with you.

Enjoy:D:D

  • 4 months later...

When the dining room realized I was a cider drinker they brought cans down so I didn't have to bring it with me - no issue to bring it but it shows they try and accommodate if they can. They could stock up with a variety of ciders when they are in Vancouver as a lot is produced in BC (it doesn't make it to Alberta though) but I'm happy with the Strongbow (even though it is pricey) in the absence of Magners - at least it is cider.
